How to synchronizate subtitles with the audio of a movie.

I have VLC v.0.9.9 installed on my computer.When I load the subtitles track from the menu video they at the beginning are OK but after some minutes they are delayed for 2-3 minutes.I have tried the menu Tools-Extend Settings-Synchronization-Advance of subtitles over video but the problem still remains.Can anyone give any suggestion about this problem?
