Looking for testers on Windows Vista/7 for DxVA2

Video playback is smooth both with the Iron Man 2 trailer and an .m2ts file from the Star Trek Blu-Ray. CPU usage was moderate, with near-even distribution across the cores.
CPU usage typically ranged between (approximate values based on watching the CPU load in Task Manager):
- Iron Man 2 trailer: 10-14%
- Star Trek .m2ts (1920x1080 h264): 17-22%

Here are the problems I had (may not all relate to GPU acceleration):
- Mouse pointer would disappear intermittently when right-clicking
- Switching to full screen would just maximize the window (with borders and title bar visible); occasionally, but not always, I managed to switch to true full-screen display on repeated double clicks.
- During .m2ts file playback there was no audio, presumably because the TrueHD audio stream could not be decoded (switching to other, non-TrueHD audio tracks, however, worked).
- Subtitles, though available for selection, did not work (they're in format 'bdpg', Blu-Ray Presentation Graphics).

Ok, none of those topics are related to GPU acceleration.

However, if you could provide us samples, in another topic of the forum, we could fix the 2 last issues.

Am i missing some setting somewhere? when playing the Iron Man 2 trailer as downloaded from iTunes in 1080p, my CPU is hovering around 50% and my GPU as reported in GPU-Z is only at 7%. as far as i can work out, hardware acceleration is enabled in the settings in VLC. maybe im being a bit of a noob and its something obvious.

also, i cannot change the video display wrapper. it wont stay on anything other than default.
it does the same with all 1080p videos that i have on my computer.

it is on my hard drive. i was unaware that vlc could be used as a browser plugin.
and as i said earlier, although not as detailed, i have other 1080p trailers not from itunes as well as BluRay rips encoded as mp4s on my hard drive and they all hover around 50% CPU and 6% GPU.

with no acceleration cpu usage is about 50 to 30.
without osd its now between 20 and 30 still.
the log of DxVA tells me "DXVA2_DecodeDeviceCreated, vlc, 00:00:36.5796619"

It works fine with XVID, but with H264, I get almost no frames. It keeps still until another frame shows up, many seconds later.

There isn't any hardware support for Xvid videos. Only H.264

My system reports it can do DxVA2, but my attempt was giant fail as all video output was a green screen (though funny enough subtitles work). I tried multiple files just in case it was a corrupt file...

It's funny that their are more issues with video acceleration on ATI cards, which use media acceleration as a selling point... Then again, in my case I've had this PC for almost four years now (the 3870 was literally a week old at the time)... Which doesn't help...

Iron Man 2 Trailer plays with sound but no video (green screen).

I was actually checking this build to see if it will help to get rid of .MTS playback tearing, but it didn't. And with hardware acceleration enabled it's same green screen as for Iron Man's .MKV.
While playing .MTS files CPU utilization is about 33% (with no hardware acceleration), still I get tearing. Windows Media Player plays them without tearing, but it's so sluggish when opening videos that I don't want to use it. I'd much prefer a fix for VLC

Very strange issue here, all of my 720p content plays fine, not gone into my CPU usage because plenty of predecessors in this thread have done that already using the same hardware as me.

However all 1080p content causes my entire screen to flash constantly, but the video and audio still play fine. This flashing is not limited to the VLC window, if I minimize VLC whilst playing 1080p my desktop is flashing too.

Another bug (as already mentioned) is true full screen will not work. The top and bottom VLC toolbars are always in view.

Sometimes if I close the VLC window there is another VLC window still there with white content, all I need to do is close it and it goes away. The title of the file I was playing is on the top of this white VLC window.

I use XBMC with DSplayer for DXVA on my media centre but thought I would give VLC a whirl as it is my player of choice for videos where I don't need to use my media centre. Great work on VLC, always good to see less powerful hardware like mine playing the full HD videos

Thanks for sharing... I am not sure if the issue is not the video output...
Can you share if that works when you reduce the video output size to less that what is needed? Like zoom to 1/4 ?

Hello, if I output to 1/4 there is no change, the window size stays the same and the flashing continues. The same happens if I double the video output. If I pause the video the flashing stops but if I resume it will start up again.

I doubt it makes any difference but this is over HDMI to a 50'' 1080p Panasonic P50v10 plasma TV.

In the media stats it says I have lost 1 audio buffer and 45 video frames within the first 52 second of playback. I am not sure if this is normal as I have never opened that menu before.

OSD was deactivated

Testclips:
x264 480p:
without gpu-acceleration: less then 10% cpu-load
with gpu-acceleration: one cpu-core at full load, laggy, played about half of the frames

x264 720p:
without gpu-acceleration: about 15% cpu-load
with gpu-acceleration: one cpu-core at full load, very laggy, one frame every few seconds

x264 1080p:
without gpu-acceleration: about 35% cpu-load
with gpu-acceleration: one cpu-core at full load, very laggy, got no picture at all, only black

maybe it helps.

I think I have solved my problem, it appears the flashing issue only occurs with 1080p files when being played from an external USB2.0 HDD. If I play them directly off my internal HDD the image does not flash! I am not sure why this happens still as XBMC plays off my external HDD with no issues so it shouldn't be the bitstream causing it.
