Insert the disc into you computer. Open VLC media player (double-click on the "VLC media player" icon). In VLC go to "Media >> Open Disc..." and then press "Play". VLC should then hopefully play the DVD-Video.

I have the same problem. (I have a german version, so I translate the messages etc. ...) Running 1.0.5 goldeneye on Windows XP.
I insert a dvd, start vlc media player, click on media - open media (it has drive E:\ in the first panel and dvd as volume) I click on replay. A new window opens, shows some progress at the bottom, I hear music and the progress indicator cycles within ~30 secs, but I don't get any picture (and no error message). I assume this is the menu before the film starts, but since I'm not able to click on somethng like "start film" it repeats and repeats ...
Any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Dont waste your time.Use Windows Media Player,Nero Show or KMD and you will be watching whatever you like just in a matter of seconds...,VLC unfortunately is incapable of playing CD's or DVD's because tons of programming are missing and it is INCAPABLE OF OPENING THE MEDIA SOURCE LOCATOR...this means that VLC will never know if you inserted a disk on your computer...
Best regards and have a nice day...
