How to Download Videos

Hi,

I am new user of VLC but i want to know how i can use VLC media player to download videos?

I have Real Player which show option while i want to download but i think that VLC can do the job more better.

I am sorry this may have been answered before but is there any one who can guide step by step about it again please?

Either use demux-dump with URL or recording button.

To record what you're watching in vlc using the record button. All you have to do is click the red circle. If you don't see the record button. Go to, View -> check Advanced Controls.



It saves the file in "My Documents" folder for me.... i'm guessing thats the default save location because I don't remember changing any settings for recording.

I never used the demux-dump command line way but in Windows XP you do it by going to: Start -> Run, then type in the command below and click OK.

"C:\Program Files\VideoLAN\VLC\vlc.exe" http://example.org/shoutcast.mp3 :demux=dump :demuxdump-file=output.mp3

The colored parts is what you change.

The red part is where your vlc.exe is installed at. If theres a space anywhere, like there is in "Program Files", you need to put quotes around the "C:\....\vlc.exe".

The green part is the URL of the file you want to record.

The blue part is the name of the output file that will be created with whatever you recorded.

I don't know where this file is saved though. Try checking "My Documents" folder.

With VLC 1.0.5 sound and video was recorded from a DVD using the red buttom method. Subtitles (in one selected language) were displayed when the source DVD was played in VLC File format of the recorded file was .mpg.
When playing the mpg file using VLC:s File option, video was displayed and sound was heard. But the subtitles could NOT be seen. I assume they are missing in the recorded mpg-file.

Any hints telling how to record video, sound and subtitles are most welcome!
