You have to change it before playback.

Go View -> Options... and Playback -> Output and tick EVR. Press OK and restart MPC-HC. If there are still issues with quality, it must be a driver issue.

VLC 1.0.4 will be shipping sometime next week. According to the current plans, this release will not be distributed to Windows users. There simply aren't enough Windows-relevant fixes from 1.0.3 (depending on your point view, you may see this as both a good or bad thing, I guess).

So... it would be nice if someone would PLEASE PROVIDE A PATCH instead of whining. Bug and regression reports are really not that helpful when the project has nobody to deal with them.

So is VLC for windows going away? Are there really no developers for windows using Win 7? It's simply unusable because of this issue. And even if there were a developer, there seems to be no known cause for this issue.

No, this has been fixed in VLC 1.1 and the quality is fine on VLC 1.0.3

Found a solution, I think it was suggested before but procedure not stated. For any version giving you trouble, go into advanced settings and deselect "use a plugins cache". Save and restart. Video quality should be fine now.

Topic is closed, because discussion has diverted.

Solution is: use VLC 1.0.3 on Windows.
