Intermittent "dark" video on VLC 1.0.3

Postby stevedee3 » 02 Nov 2009 14:02

Hi,

I recently upgraded from version 1.0.1 to version 1.0.3 and I have a new problem. Sometimes the video comes up quite dark, but I haven't been able to figure out when it will happen. I'm running Windows 2000 and all the VLC preferences are set to the defaults.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Figured out when it happens - it goes wrong when the window is partially off screen or if the picture is bigger than the screen e.g. 1920x1080 on a 1680x1050 screen.

Does it work better if you change video output module (or disable Overlay)?

Hmmm, I'm more confused now. If I disable Overlay or if I choose an alternate video output module, the picture is always "dark".

To summarise:
Overlay on, Default (DirectX) video output module, image fits on screen => "bright" picture
Overlay on, Default (DirectX) video output module, image doesn't fit on screen => "dark" picture

Overlay on, Windows GDI output module => "dark" picture
Overlay on, OpenGL output module => "dark" picture
Overlay on, DirectX 3D output module => "dark" picture

Overlay off, Any output module => "dark" picture

It sounds like maybe my complaint should be that the picture is too bright sometimes...! :!: Unless you advise otherwise, I'll change to DirectX 3D and manually increase the brightness.

Thanks VLC_help!
