sound and subtitles in vlc 0.9.9, 1.0.0 and 1.0.1

Postby rainbowcrypt » 21 Sep 2009 11:10

Hi,
I have some problems looking at french HD TV recordings (*.ts):
On VLC 0.9.9 I have subtitles, but no sound.
On vlc 1.0.0 I have sound, but no subtitles,
and on vcl 1.0.1 I have no sound and no subtitles.

I hope that in vlc 1.0.2 I wil have both :D
I can try to post a part of a recording if you want?

Regards,
rainbowcrypt

You can try nightlies if you want to test 1.0.2
http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/?C=M;O=D (branches are 1.0.2)

Hi I tried the version 1.0.2 yesterday (in the directory "branch-20090921-0007" ) And I can say that the sound is comed back, but still no subtitles.
I tried to do a "ctrl+J", and vlc detect 2 PIDs for subtitles, it says that the codecs are dvbs, and the description is "dvb-subtitles". So it seems Ok, but in fact, not :) On vlc 0.9.9 (the one on which subtitles works), when I do a "ctrl+J", it detects the same 2 PIDs for subtitles, and dvbs codec, but the descriptions are : "dvb-subtitles [French]" for the first one and "dvb-subtitles [Original Version]" for the second one. I don't know if the problem is due to the codec or to the demultiplexer. I tried to choose another demultiplexer in the configuration, but nothing work better.

Please tell me what I can do to have a better report (perhaps a log file with the debug version??) I've uploaded a piece of recording here (just few seconds) http://dl.free.fr/pZhXMbalx if someone want to test...
Thanks for your help (and sorry for my poor english  )

You can see log via Tools -> Messages... (set Verbosity to 2) and official 1.0.2 should be out.

Hi,
I have nothing new about the version 1.0.2 since it is not very verbose... (perhaps it considers there is no errors).
Anyway, I tried the version 1.1.0 here : http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win ... 0922-2207/ and it works fine! I have every streams, sound, video and subtitles. BUT (there is always a but  ) there is no "real" fullscreen. I mean that the fullscreen is only a borderless vidéo, wich size is the original video size, but my screen is greater than this video size. So the video doesn't fit to my screen.

This evening, I wil test the version 1.0.3 and see

**EDIT**
I forgot 2 images (on the left vlc 1.0.2, on the right vlc 1.1.0):
Image
and Image

that show the difference between the 2 versions of vlc

Fullscreen issue will be fixed before official 1.1.0 releases.

Hi,
It is ok for the fullscreen, someone show me, it was juste a box to check (Something about the Desktop in the video/DirectX 3D configuration menu).
Since the 1.0.3 version doesn't work better than the 1.02, I will stay we the 1.1.0 version.

Thank you for your help

As it woks in 1.1.0, we need to find out what commit fix it and backport it to the 1.0-bugfix branch.

Reading the log on the ts demuxer should be a good starting point
