Problem with progression bar

I have windows XP.
I passed from the last version of VLC(that works well) to this VLC 0.9.9 .
and now it doesn't work well at all:the major problem is that the progression bar vanished!the slider is hidden or somewhat..I am able to move it guessing where it is but I can't see it!
I tried to set something in the settings menu but when I opened it I realized that all the submenus and all tabs doesn't have any layout..there are no check boxes..
I didn't change anything after installing the problem so I'm just using default settings..what can I do to solve this problem?

Delete VLC's preferences and cache files. To do this go to:
C:\Documents and Settings\(Your username)\Application Data

And delete the "vlc" folder. Then open VLC etc.

there is no "vlc" folder in there..

Well that is the default location for VLC's settings (AppData is a hidden folder). Going to:
Start >> Run...

And entering:
%appdata%

Should take you to the same folder.

ok solved..but the progression slider still is hidden!

Are you using a non-standard Windows theme? Qt4 has some issues with some themes.

yeah in effect i'm using alienware..but all previous version vlc worked well..d'you think this is the problem?

So older versions of VLC 0.9.x worked, or do you mean VLC 0.8.x?

Does VLC 1.0.0-rc3 work any better?:

no I tried it but doesn't work..0.8.x works(by now I have 0.8.5)..how can it be possible??

AFAIK it is to do with Qt4 support for windows themes, is not VLC-specific. Try switching to the default Windows XP theme and that should work correctly. I don't know about tweaking Qt4 settings on Windows.

AFAIK = As far as I know
Qt4 = The Qt4 interface, the default user interface from VLC 0.9.x and upwards (on Windows and Linux).
