Dear All,

I reopened this thread because I have noticed that this bug is still current and in my opinion the bug request has been closed to rapidely.

I'm using VLC 0.9.9 with Windows XP, the bug is supposed to be fixed in VLC 0.9 but you will see in the following capture that it is still current.

for info, MPC don't have the bug but I don't think MPC is using Direct 3D but WMR

here is a capture with direct3d output and no video accelerated output

Image

here is a capture with directX output and no video accelerated output

Image

the difference is light but you still see that the edges are more sharp with directX output, but moreover, I have noticed that the effect of sharpness is better with video accelerated output

here is a capture directX ouput and video acceleration
Image

with direct3d and video acceleration no changes are noticed, the edge are still blurry.

Now, to see my videos in good condition, my setting are DirectX with video acceleration, but since the DirectX ouput will be suppress on Vista and Window 7, it means that as long as this bug is not corrected I will see the blurry effect when upgrading my OS:(

too bad I'm not a directX programmer I would have check what's in the code.

anyone having an idea ?
should the ticket be reopened ?

thanks

Touco

I did some changes for 1.0.0
viewtopic.php?f=14&t=54993&p=181262&hil ... ck#p181715
it is much better now. DirectX output does some oversharp trick when upscaled that is why it looks sharper.

Thanks for the change then, I'll check on the 1.00 release.

I really like this oversharp trick that comes form DirectX output, in my opinion, it gives a better image quality.
it is an advantage of VLC on MPC, because with these directX output setting, the image is better quality that of MPC that is using VMR.

if this oversharp trick could be implemented in Direct3D (or whatever that is compatible with Vista or Win 7) that would be perfect !

Are you guys all mental? Direct3D IS DirectX.. ;) It's the same thing! I can relate though, I've noticed in Vista and Windows 7 that any video I play in VLC (even if it's an actual DVD and not a download) is blurry and jagged.. Don't know why but it's very annoying.. Hope you all find a solution to this.. Just keep in mind that Direct3D IS DirectX.. hahaha

The fact that they call it "Direct3D" now is just a marketing gimmick to sell more computers.. People in general are stupid.. It's sad but true. So by renaming something people will think it's new, thus meaning it must be better.. So by going from DirectX to Direc3D people think they are two different things when they in fact are not different at all.. :)

No. DirectX is not Direct3D.
