I know Coffee Corner is the wrong place to ask

Postby Ostercy » 20 Feb 2009 15:48

Please help me. I'm computer illiteral and very desperate. I've got VLC on my PC and I've got an avi movie, and I want to make a clip and save it as separate file, maybe a mp3 file?, but I have no idea how to do it. Can anybody have mercy on me and tell how to do it (or even if it can be done)?

So you want to save a section of audio from the AVI video? You can e.g. stream to an MP3 file with VLC, however if the AVI file already has a MP3 audio track it it you could extract that and use that instead. Also using e.g. VLC 0.9.8a seems to be problematic with e.g. VBR MP3 audio.

If you want to try it anyway go to:
Media >> Convert / Save...

Select your AVI file. Press "Convert / Save". If you want just MP3 audio (128kbps) select "MP3" from the Profile list. Tick "File" and enter a destination. Press "Save". Hopefully if the stream worked correctly when it is finished you should have the audio for the entire video file.

Alternatively, assuming that the audio track in the AVI file is MP3, then instead you could demux (extract) the entire audio track using e.g. Avidemux. Open the AVI file in Avidemux (press "Yes"/"OK" to any questions about VBR/bitsream), then go to "Audio >> Save..." and save the file as an MP3 file (e.g. "out.mp3").

Then you should have the audio from the AVI file. You could then cut the audio file (just select the audio segment you want) with e.g. Audacity.

Use the forum search.

Anyway, yes VLC should be able to, however it is not the best application to rip audio CDs - use e.g. Exact Audio Copy or CDex instead.

See here for some more detail:

Because it is not a secure ripper with error handling etc. found in rippers such as EAC.

And also, media players also lack verification, ensuring the the rip is error-free, that's what the "log" file in EAC is for: verification. :)

Click on the "Exact Audio Copy 0.99 Prebeta 4 (International)" link here:
http://www.digital-world.de/downloads/a ... ional.html

For setting up refer to e.g. CloudStalker's topic here:
viewtopic.php?f=5&t=55644

Or the HA.org Wiki guides:
http://wiki.hydrogenaudio.org/index.php ... opy_guides

If you want something simpler to setup CDex might be a better option - itcan be downloaded from here (click on e.g. "Download for Windows NT series (NT, 2000, XP, Vista)" link):
http://cdexos.sourceforge.net/?q=download

No you shouldn't need another program - if you just extract the tracks into uncompressed WAV files then you can write a CD with a cuesheet. The best way would be to rip a CD to a single WAV file by pressing the third button down on the left (one with "IMG" written on it), then you can just burn a CD using that cuesheet from within EAC.

Well this is what I wanted to do?

Take say a fue WAV File and make a Audio CD.
But not have them in one singel WAV File.
So if I understand you the list is to tell the Player what song to play first????

Can I just take some WAV Files and make an Audio CD without making the List you say??

As I said before if you do want to just make a quick Audio CD try something like InfraRecorder.

OK, actually you don't need to make a cuesheet. You can add WAV file individually and it would work.

In EAC go to "Tools >> Write CD-R..." and then you can drag-and-drp you WAV file there, and make a CD. When you have added all you files/named them etc. go to "CD-R >> Write CD..." etc.
