VLC not play asx and m3u streaming

when opening radio station asx http://azulweb.streamguys.com/wmnf24.asx or pls or m3u http://wmnf2.streamguys.us/live.mp3.m3u files I hear NOTHING. VLC is not playing the stations. If you need more details,let me know what you need to know.

I just tested the m3u, and it opens in VLC and I hear the audio.
The asx I had to chose "download". Afterwards it by default opened in Windows Media Player. And I heard the audio.
I forced the file to open with VLC and....it works also very fine...So there must be an issue with your configuration.

VLC opens when I dbl click m3u file and it does access the internet, cuz my firewall asks. For asx & pls files, I need to open vlc, then do media~open network and paste, then firewall asks if vlc can access the net. I say yes and No sound.

Your open method is wrong. Use Media -> Open Network... then paste the URL there.

Nope. VLC tries to open D:\radio\wmnf\Listen.m3u.url or D:\radio\wmnf\Listen.asx.url as your log states.

The current version of vlc no longer open and play .m3u urls that I can see.

If you want that feature, you'll need to downgrade to v.8

all 5 worked in a previous version, When i reinstalled my os none worked, then I downloaded ver 9.8 and still none worked.

now i try 9.9, but it comes in a format that my computer does not understand. I think vlc has over the years gotten more and more geeky, too bad.

no, I m not and I really dont have lots of patience. This is why I still use windows. I wanna join the linux world, but still to many things like drives that need to be dealt with. All I know is vlc worked, then I got a new video card, reinstalled xp sp2 and all the patches, bla, bla, bla and VLC no longer works. Other apps I re-installed work, but not vlc... and whats this new vlc dnld file, that windows no longer recognizes...
