Odd .mov Video Playback (Pictures and Video Links Included)

Postby OhNoes09 » 22 Feb 2009 15:24

Hello,

I have encountered some odd behavior with VLC playing .mov files. More specifically this video found at
https://media.blackhat.com/bh-dc-09/vid ... -slide.mov

1.) This is what the .mov file looks like in QuickTime.

2.) The first time I open .mov file in VLC, it looks like this...
Notice the borderless black filled rectangle.

3.) After watching .mov file while having repeat on, double click to exit fullscreen and it looks like this. Double clicking once more on the background video releases full screen.

4.) Okay, so lets completely exit out of VLC and retry .mov file. It now looks like this. Notice the borderless black filled rectangle now has a border but the video does not.

5.) Again, lets completely exit VLC and retry playing .mov file. It now looks like this.
Video has border, while small rectangle window does not. However, instead of being all black this time, it display a logo.

6.) Okay, one more restart of VLC. The small rectangle window now has a border and the logo displayed. The main video windows has no border.

This doesn't seem normal.

Well, this is because the video has 2 video-tracks.

So, these screen captures are showing normal behavior?

This is a "composited" Quicktime/MP4 movie. At the moment VLC (or any other non-Quicktime player) does not provide support for this kind of compositing. VLC does however show all the enabled video tracks in this case. It is expected that VLC does not really know which to choose as "primary" track, and thus the controls are a bit out of whack.

This is not expected to be fixed in any timely fashion.
Don't use PMs for support questions.
