"VLC does not support the audio or video format "mlp". Unfo

Postby Drew-El » 22 Feb 2009 07:53

VLC on WINDOWS XP

I downloaded a .mkv file, that is rougly 1.31gb. It has Superb quality (720p), works and plays smoothly on my *Desktop (2003). However, when I transfer the movies to *2 laptops I own, one in (2004) and one bought in late (2008), they don't play at all. When i play it through VLC media player in both laptops, i get this error message...

***( "VLC does not support the audio or video format "mlp". Unfortunately, there is no way to fix this" )***

Obviously, the .mkv file is not broken or corrupted since it works perfectly on my very old Desktop. The question is why isn't it working on my latest laptop I bought in October of 2008, with the latest codecs such as the CCCP and other codecs + VLC media (version 0.9.8 win32) installed?

Before any of you reply by saying VLC does not support 'mlp' yet, and that VLC 1.0 will fix it etc is not true, because it works on my desktop. A 2003 DESKTOP!!!

Now, the WEIRD THING I discovered involves with my Lacie 500gb External USB harddrive. I always transfer my movies to provide greater storage on my desktop and also to back up my files. Now, In the past, there was this single .mkv file that always played on my desktop but never on my laptop. One time, I browsed through the list of movies through my laptop connected via USB external drive; played that very same file on it and guess what, IT WORKS! :o

In recalling this experience, I thought i could apply the same logic to this new .mkv file I downloaded. Therefore, I transferred the file to the External USB hdd, connected it to my latest laptop (2008) one. Opened the file from the external drive and VOILA! the video works PERFECTLY, and NOT a single error message. Now THAT is weird.

So, why won't the file play if its copied to the hdd of my laptop? and why does it work through my external 500gb usb harddrive? Is there a hidden codec in my external hdd that was somewhat carried over from my desktop pc from previous movie files? Its a problem for me because I use my laptop to project 720p and 1080p movies on my HDTV. Meaning it would be easier for me to project the movie through a usb flashdrive, instead of carrying a 500gb brick + and adapter.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :D

My Desktop Specs: This desktop was bought in *2003...

Hello,

The mlp codec is only included in VLC 1.0.0 and over. So you can try 1.0.0-devel test packages to check if that is fixed. If it isn't, please give us the sample so we can add support for it.

Hi j-b...

Thanks, I'll try the 1.0 test package to see.
