IP cameras and VLC

Postby fiesteban » 19 Feb 2009 10:27

Good Day to every body,

I have been looking through the wiki but I have not found any solution to my problem. I am wondering if it is possible to display the video images from an IP camera with the VLC media player. As far as I know, VLC media player is able to display video streams, but IP cameras works as web servers, not streaming the video, don't they? If I have understood well, VLC can only acts as server but not as client, am I right? Does anybody know if there is any possibility to do that with VLC? do you know any IP camera which is able to stream the video?

Thank you all very much in advance!

MJPEG over HTTP should work, but that really depends on the camera model (or rather the format of its output)...
