The file-logging thing above won't work on Windows.

EDIT: The method I described here also did not work. Hence: Try out different video/audio codecs out when transcoding.

You should just be able to select your D:\ drive as the source. Thy out some different video codec etc. since the setup you have been trying has been causing it to crash. And post messages if you can get any (from the Messages window).

OK I just tryed going to the Dropdown List for the Format you would like to Ripp To instead of picking the Encaptulation and Format by hand.

I picked MPEG-2 and let it do everything by it's self and it did not work the same Massage came up.
So then I picked H264 and let it do everything it's self and that did not work and the same Massage came up.

I use Win XP Pro do you think I should have something to download with VLC Media Player? All I downloaded was VLC Media Player 0.9?????

No you don't need anything else with it. If you downloaded VLC media player 0.9.8a from the official site (here) and removed preferences and cache file then that should be all you need.

Ok I just Un Installed VLC and removed everything.
Then I just Installed the Verson from the Link you gave me.
Then when it was Installing I Checked the Option that says Delette Preferances and Cash Files.

Then I tryed to Ripp again and I just selected MPEG-2 from the Dropdown List and let it do everything.

And the same thing happened it will not Ripp and gives the same Massage.

If someone does not mind I would realy like to get this to work.

That is for clearing the messages. Don't do that. Once you have set the verbosity to 2, do the DVD rip with VLC. As the process starts messages will appear in the Messages window.

And it just Ripps the Main DVD Menu and that plays but it looks Pixelleted.

You need to specify the right title. With a bit of trial and error you should be able to find out the title for the main movie. Enter e.g. "1", "2" etc. into the "Title" field in the "Open" window:

Then just press "Play". Once you know you have the right title, use that one for the conversion.

OK if I don't put a checkmark in No DVD Menuse and leave Title set to 0. it will Ripp it but just the Main Menue Screen and plays Pixeled.

If I do the same thing but set the Title to 1. or 2 or 3. I get now Massage at all and it just puts a File on the Desktop that is 0. Bytes.

This is a Simpsons DVD you know the TV Show.
What els can you think of I think I am getting closs because if I leave it set to Title 0. it does ripp the Selection Screen Menus???????????

Tick "No DVD menus" as that is a better mode for playing individual titles. Try more titles - 4, 5, 6 etc., except just play them (i.e. to test to see if they are the right episode(s)) first. If the title selected is playable it shouldn't crash when converting.

OK I put a checkmark in Play Localy but the only Tab is the one at the Bottum Right that says Save and that starts the Encoding.

And I keep trying Title 0. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6.
And they all crash.
But when I take the checkmark out of No DVD Menus it rips just the main Screen and that is it.

And it did not play Localy does that meen I am missing somthing how do you get it to play at the same time?????

If everyone can do this and get it to work I think I am just missing something.

Or maybe my computer is I do have a Firewall and Anti Virus but I can Play dvds???????????????
Please keep thinking thanks

I think I may know what is going ON???

I just downloaded Media Coder to try to convert Video Files from one format to another and when it whent to do it it told me.
Media Coder could not convert the Video File because the MCoder could not be found or is not Installed.

Now I now this is Media Coder but can my VLC Media Player not be able to Ripp the DVD because I am missing the MCoder???

"File >> Open Disc..." will give you a "Play" button.

Ticking "Play locally" should playback the video in real time at the same time as the encoding.

No, VLC media player uses it's own codecs - does not need MCoder.

OK I just whent to Open File and picked one of the .VOB Files and whent to play it and just the sound plays and it skips.

Then I tryed to go to Open Disc and that just brings me to ware you go to checkmark No DVD Menus and Play Localiy and it never plays.

But my DVDs do play when I just put them into the Drive VLC Playes them greate.

I think that VLC Media Player may not work at all for me I would like to do two things???

I have an Analog to DV Converter Box it takes Analog and Converts it to DV and sends it to my computer through a Firewire.

Can VLC Pick up the Firewire Signal coming in you know so I can watch it full screen? I use this to bring Signals into my Computer from my VCR or Camcorder.
If it can just tell me in your own words how to do this????

And I wanted to try putting a YouTube addresss in VLC they say you can watch YouTube through VLC.

If nothing at all works if these two things don't work I know it is just VLC and my computer

It might be possible to open via DirectShow - "Open >> Open Capture Device...", refresh the devices and see if it there.

Yes that should work.

That does not meen it Captured the Video coming in through my Firewire does it I just hit play???
I just selected my DV Connection and picked the Play button at the Bottum right hand side..

And I did download a program called RipNburnDVD
Now this Ripped my DVD greate but I have a fue Qs about CODECs and Encapulation???

For the CODECs it has H264 this I don't know what kind of CODEC this is is it an AVI????
And then it has
MP1V
MP2V
MP4V
What are all these MP CODECs I never saw them???

And the Encapulation it has?
MPEG-TS
MPEG-PS
AASF
MP4

I think if you tell me what the formats are and Encapulations are I may understand things more clearly and it may help me with VLC??

Yes that is just playing it. You should be able to do the same via "Media >> Convert / Save..." and stream to a file.
For the CODECs it has H264 this I don't know what kind of CODEC this is is it an AVI????
No it is not AVI - best uses with e.g. MKV container format. It is a newer more advanced codec than DivX/XviD (which are the common formats in an AVI file).
MP1V
MP2V
MP4V
What are all these MP CODECs I never saw them???
They are all MPEG codecs - MPEG-1, 2, and 4. MPEG-2 is used in DVD-Videos. MPEG-4 is best for high compression.
And the Encapulation it has?
MPEG-TS
MPEG-PS
AASF
MP4
MPEG-TS or MP4 is probably best for MP4V. MPEG-TS for MP2V/MP1V.

OK thanks for the help.
Now I understand the CODECs mp1v...mp2v....mp4v are all MPEGs and H264 is just another CODEC.
But how do I know what Encapulation goes with what CODEC?

Like Encapulation MPEG-TS or MPEG-PS what are they and what do they go with?
Out of the List of CODECs and out of the list of Encapulation please tell me what ones go with what ones??

MPEG-TS or MP4 is probably best for MP4V. MPEG-TS for MP2V/MP1V.
Try MP4V with MP4. MPEG-TS for MP2V and MP1V.

Not really, because some programs can create files that are against specs but they do work on some cases. MP4 does have list of officially supported codecs.

Thank you for all your help with Video CODECs but I did not get everything down.

I want you to put the CODECs that will go with eatch Encapulation Method. What I meen is if there is any you don't know just put a ? Marck next to it.
But just type one Encapulation and then an = next to it and type the CODECs that will go with it. Then do that for the Next Encapulation.

I know you did a fue but I kind of got mixed up.

Encapulation Method.
MPEG-TS
MPEG-PS
MPEG-1.
ASF
MP4.

CODECs
MP1. V
MP2. V
MP4. V
H264.

tHANK YOU SO SO MUTCH.
