Re: Hot Key Jump FWD doesnt work w ASX stream

Postby jawn » 06 Jan 2009 00:07

VLC 0.9.x - 0.9.8a

Symptom: Hotkeys to jump forward: CTRL+LEft (SHIFT+Left, ALT+Left) do not work when playing back ASX stream.
Source is is from local MythWeb server. Works fine with other file formats.

Function did work fine for ASX files in VLC Version 0.8.x

Thanks, John.

Hey guys,
I have been an die hard fan of vlc since as long as i can remember but since the last 3-4 releases( from ver 0.9 onwards) i find a considerable delay / lag in the video ( video freezes while audio continues to function without any problem ) I have noticed that this problems is pretty common when accessing flv, avi and mkv formats. The problem gets solved when i downgrade to 0.86d.
The same video's work perfectly fine with other players. Can someone pls help out here, ive noticed that a few of my other friends are also facing the same problem. we could really do with your help. I do not want to shift to a different player.
Is it possible to get the good old classic interface back with the next release. VLC has always been about performance, hope it remains that way.

Regards,
Uzair.

Excalibur: you get any messages to VLC message log when problems appear?

jawn: ASF/WMV seeking is broken
http://trac.videolan.org/vlc/ticket/2272

uzair83: issue is in libavcodec decoder that for some reason freezes. Hopefulyl some upcoming ibavcodec release fixes this. And wxwidget interface is buried, 1.0.0 will bring interface that you can customize, in case you want different layout or want to get rid of certain elements.

Hi all!

Haven't used VLC for some months due to some issues that I had that which I was hoping would be resolved in some future release...and now not sure if this is one of those or not:

Scenario:
1) Using vers 0.9.8a without any known tweaks to default settings
2) W2K system w/all current patches
3) Have ffdshow installed for other app usage...not that familiar with this stuff but needed it to play media in a preview screen for a file manager.
4) Attempting to play http://streaming.webcastsusa.com/town_chatham which streams just fine in WMP.
5) In VLC, almost all the audio drops out and is only on rare occasion heard. The statistics show that the "Lost Buffers" is correspondingly almost 99% of total blocks.

Can someone provide me with some direction to go in? I'd like to not use WMP for this as I want to resize it to smaller size than WMP allows.
Thanks!

yuer1108: If you get Windows Bluescreen, you either have bad device drivers or broken hardware. VLC cannot BSOD Windows.

j_hallgren:
http://streaming.webcastsusa.com/town_chatham works fine in here. I am using 0.9.8a under Windows Vista. You have other network related issues? ping works OK to streaming.webcastsusa.com? I get 133 ms and I am located in Finland.

Thanks for reply! No, it's unfortunately only VLC that I have ever had problems with! :( Not only with this vers but older vers as well. I've not tried every vers along the way, but occasionally did check in and try one. There was a vers about 2 yrs ago that worked mostly as I vaguely recall.

I can get these and other streams just fine with other products, but with VLC, I keep having audio dropout or no audio issues, not only on this stream but others, included saved videos on my local HD. Granted, I am on an older OS (Win 2000) but when it's just this software makes it appear to me that it's the problem. Sorry!

Excalibur: that is livavcodec issue, hopefully it will be fixed in next libavcodec contrib update.

So... Ive got some minor issues with the new VLC 0.9.8a its not that big of a deal, everything works, just not correctly and its kind of an inconvenience.

Anyhow while im watching a movie or video there is no time line bar to adjust the video position, instead of looking like this at the bottom...Image
or this

Image

the time line bar is invisible and all of the buttons have no outline, meaning the square outline around the play, pause and stop buttons. the time line bar can still be adjusted but with no visual reference as to where it is its almost useless. also if i open up the adjustments and effects menu it just doesn't look right, there is also no way of telling how much your adjusting something no line or bar to see where your adjusting the hue or brightness or anything... looks like this.

Image

so yeah... those are my problems, let me know what you think.
