Hi, I found 2 bugs in the latest version, .flv won't load - it crashes,
and now while I was listening to a live stream, and try to stop it, it won't stop, and when I close Vlcplayer, the music keeps on streaming/playing
cheers,

FLV playback is fixed on that build.

bpjim: could you provide URL that shows this issue?

eisenringtheo: you removed %appdata%\vlc before installing the latest VLC?

lestbest: both issues are know. But thanks for reporting those.

StephVlan2008: you open some RTP stream? Or leave the address empty?

The last few builds have been pretty buggy. Why don't the developers allow beta testing to forum users BEFORE making builds available for general download? It would save a lot of people a LOT of headaches. We can catch no-brainer bugs like .flv's not playing.

You can test nightlies http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/latest/ before they are officially release.

Because users don't help us ?
There are nightly builds all the time.

viewtopic.php?f=14&t=52674 solve FLV playback.

Not sure I follow you. The last release crashed on .flv's. The "fix" posted locks up on open configuration. The nightly builds, which I check out all the time, have no formal feedback mechanism. What is the release process? And what do you mean users don't help you? What is this forum for? Developers who do this for a living know you need a form of beta process prior to "going gold"; it seems clear we have none for VLC (at least none that works very well).

I recommend a special tag on nightlies, such as "Final Beta" so people can provide feedback in this or a special developers forum prior to GENERAL release.

Hello all,
To avoid this flv problem not working anymore in release 0.9.6, i choosed the following option :
stay with 0.9.4 release and delete the 3 dangerous plugins as described in Security Advisory #0809 and #0810 :
( libsubtitle_plugin.dll , libty_plugin.dll , libvcd_plugin.dll )
This major flv problem will certainly be fixed in next official release and i'll choose the official update at this time.

By the way, even in 0.9.6, i notice another problem in Settings :
Interface Settings - Instances - Tick "Allow only one instance"
Then tick "Enqueue files in playlist when in one instance mode"
Save preferences and quit VLC
When you launch VLC again, you'll notice the UNticked "Enqueue files in playlist when in one instance mode"
Is it on my computer only or others have same problem ?

Thanks to all that created VLC as it's a terrific program :D

Delete preferences and cache (use the forum search).

Also, download VLC 0.9.6 since it fixes the FLV issue etc. as j-b wrote here:

Streaming Files using 0.8.6 is okey, but the 0.9.6 VLC pop up an error window:

-----------------------------------------------
| Streaming / Transcoding failed: |
| VLC could not open the encoder. |
-----------------------------------------------

Playing the same file works properly under 0.9.6.

Streaming capture device (e.g. DVB-T) also get the similar problem.

0.9.x blows. what were you guys thinking? the interface is horrible, the buttons, the look, everything. the bugs (does not disable idle monitor poweroff)
0.8.6 was great, rarely crashed, was so much faster. i suggest you go back to the drawing boards. you killed something great

Hi

I have just installed 094 on my new laptop that has Vista installed and I am not able to play any DVDs , they start noo picture is shown, just some scatterd pixels.
We get scatterred pixels on most stream startups now, as well, they last about a whole minute, wheras with .8.6 h would last about 1/4 of a second or less upon starting video stream. WinXP SP3
same with win xp sp2
I upgraded my Laptop running WinXP Pro SP2 to 0.9.6 and ran into the same problem playing DVD. I reinstalled 0.8.6h and problem went away. Is there any version in between these two releases that does not have this problem?

I found a bug.
If I set "sub-language" the field in configuration file, I get the error "No suitable decoder module: VLC does not support the audio or video format "telx". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this." when I open an item with no subtitles present.

I'm almost certain, that this error was not present in 0.9.4.
