I agree completely with Mik. So hopefully there will be a update for this.

Hi,

My last question in this thread:
Does the same problem also occur with other operating systmes?

I continue left-overs in

Hi J-B, is in the newer versions there also a fix for the seamless playback?

I tested with 0.8.6i and with 0.9.4, both show desktop between media change. But the change is little faster on 0.8.6i as I assumed earlier.

attn j-b and VLC_help !

The one and only plus point with VLC was seamless playback.
I really wonder how come you guys don't even know this feature.
That is very much with 0.8.5 and 0.8.6
Though it is not a real seamless technology, it was simulated as seamless playback.
Last frame of previous video is frozen till the next video takes over it.
We call it as pseudo-seamless !

I don't know how come the new VLC arch.tech ignored this great feature at the cost of some thing else.
When I developed our college project with 3 types of media player activex and finaly VLC 0.8.6 version has been
selected just because of the seamless playback. So how can I forget this wonderful feature.
Any how I replaced it with my own 100% seamless player activeX without any bugs.

VLC_help that is realy nonsense. When you play a few AVI or MPEG files with version 0.8.6 it runs seamless. There is no going back to the background and also no freazing of the last frame. It just runs from on to the other file without going back to the background or destroying my DVDMax/Pure Video.
I agree completely with Alpha. I don't understand that you don't know and acknowledge this feature. So please do a check with loading a few AVI or MPEG files in a playlist in version 0.8.6 and in 0.9.4 and see the difference. I really need this feature in a new player and I don't think I'm to only one.
Alpha: could you send me your player?

VLC use to keep the video output if two video where very very similar (size/codec), but this has been removed because it didn't work in many situation and because we are working on a feature idea.

In non-fullscreen, this isn't a problem since you can use the background Widget without issues... In fullscreen, you cannot do anything about it.

Use 0.8.6i if you prefer it.

attn j-b:
>>VLC use to keep the video output if two video where very very similar (size/codec)
That is right, and that's what every one needs from VLC, and that's why every one use VLC.

I really could not even point out any big features with VLC that peolple are crazy with VLC just because of
its library that supports almost all the file format. Its light weight and portable. But it is bugy.

I am sorry to say this, because when a good feature of seamless has been taken out and if you speak about a BIG
technology, that is waste.

attn EdwinHoegen:
Since my player is a commercial version I can't release it right now as GPL. I will let you know when I release it for free.

Well, it was working correctly before... Of course VLC is buggy, what do you expect for a media player with thousands of functionnalities, with very few dev ?

>>what do you expect for a media player with thousands of functionnalities, with very few dev ?
j-b,
don't take it as personal.
fact is fact...
when you give tons of filters for VLC media player, with very few dev ! especially
blur and chroma keying(blue screen) filters.
Can't we expect the basic seamless ?
No one will be interested to blur the hero's face instead will prefer to see the movie without
grand ma watering the garden on the desktop. May be these filters are useful when I use your
activex plugin and make a modern video mixer/player project. But not for a basic media player.

Pls. accept the fact that you have removed a wonderful seamless feature and added a new feature to
disturb the viewer to watch grand ma watering the garden on the desktop.

I really don't have any intension to get seamless from VLC.
I write this because of some developers remove good features from new version.
And try to justify it.
Example: nVidia 8 and 9 series removed fullscreen video.
They don't really know that those are the key features for the fame !

So as Seamless vs VLC !!!

No. You can't expect anything from Open Source project.

EdwinHoegen : you want video that proves that there isn't seamless playback in 0.8.6?

forget it...

btw, we are talking about VLC 0.8.6i and even VLC 0.8.5
in which we could see seamless video playback for years.
I doubt we don't catch your term "seamless" or vise versa !

The problem with previous versions is that the AVI files don't run perfect. After a while to start to jerk and skip frames. So I can't go back to these versions. I've tested very version from 0.6 up to the latest release of 8.6. They al have the same problem. Which is luckely solved in the new release, but now there is no seamless playback. So every movie is loaded seperately with a small flash of my PC's background.
@ Alpha: please let me know when the player is availible. No problem that I have to pay for it.

Seamless in my terms "Video playback that doesn't show desktop when next video from playlist starts in fullscreen mode" and video refers to any video in any format.

Thanks VLC_help:
You are 100% right...
Pls. read my earlier post, where I said VLC had "pseudo seamless".
More or less my dictionary also has the same meaning for the word seamless.
So I think, we don't want to discuss about this feature any more.
If you implement this feature in the future, that time let the whole world enjoy this.
Thanks again and I am sorry if I have crossed my limit.
