Yep, 0.9.4 has the same issues because it is packed with avcodec-51.dll, libfreetype-6.dll etc. so you have to do manual copying of dlls to get it work.

Ones found from your VLC folder (excluding libvlc.dll and libvlccore.dll) to %windir%\System32 or to your browsers plugin directory.

Just copied these two files from VLC's (v0.9.4) folder to both "C:\Windows\System32" and "C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\plugins" folders. Still look at "Video is loading..." message :( (and yes, I didn't forget to restart the browser)

There's a way to avoid having to pollute the windows\system32 folder and still make the vlc 0.9.4 browser plugin work with Chrome and Firefox/Seamonkey (so it probably works with other browsers too):

Just add the Videolan folder path to the Path system variable :-)

As a quick remainder how to do that: Right click on "My Computer" and select "Properties", on the "Advanced tab" select "Environment variables" then in "system variables" look for "Path" double click on it then at the end of whatever is on the "variable value" field add ;c:\program files\videolan\vlc (or whatever path you installed videolan into, the ; before the path is necessary to separate it from the previous path).

Adding the path worked, thanks.

Audio files still display the "video is loading..." screen, but they do play.
I'm also not seeing any way to actually control the video.

Just in case it is useful :

I test upcoming 0.9.7 on FF3 on XP SP2 and it worked on http stream without any dll loading error.

Hopefully this version will be out soon , and people will upgrade. Videoaln is a great solution for deplying Ogg theora embedded vidéos .

I still have a problem when I'm behind a proxy even when proxy settings are set in the Videolan client. , But I saw It's being worked on, I ll try to help
