Missing fast/slow playing

Postby mikeyd » 30 Aug 2008 00:49

Hi all,

in the future versions 0.9.x I miss the feature to change the speed of playback. In 0.8.x this feature was implemented (VLC_SpeedFaster/VLC_SpeedSlower).
Why was this removed, is it planned or did I miss something?

Thanks

I found the feature in the new player (right-click on "1.00x")
But if someone could tell me the alternative DLL functionname in version 0.9.x for 'VLC_SpeedFaster' and 'VLC_SpeedSlower' I would be very thankful!

Thanks

Hello!
Have you already solved this problem?I'm trapped in this problem, too.I tried to use VLC_SpeedFaster in the old libvlc.dll, but I don't know what the parameter of VLC_SpeedFaster is and what should I put in.It requires an int,but how can I get this int? :?:

Again, this is one of those cosmetic user interface changes in the currrent version which is a total waste of man-hours.
Reminiscent of Internet Explorer 7 nonsense.
The user of forced to chase around for features which were already nailed down in previous versions,
while nothing of value is added to the program.
The previous more direct presentation of this important feature was better.

On the other hand, I never use the Previous and Next in Playlist buttons, partly because I use the multiple instance capability, which for some reason is not the default.
Furthermore, Next and Previous would only be useful if they restarted the selected instance at the playback time position it was at when switched.

Well, please open your eyes, since the buttons are still present on both sides of the slider...

That is not where the playback rate feature belongs and is not intuitive.
In fact, that reminds me of the capability Windows Movie Maker has to index forward and backward, one slide/picture at a time, within its editing menu.
That Windows Movie Maker feature is a useful feature and would more likely belong at either end of the progress bar.

As a separate additional possibility, the ability to simply Playback video in reverse direction might be useful.

Sorry, the slower/faster buttons are still on the interface...

To have someone change up the user interface and make existing functionality harder to find is a complete waste of man-hours. The person could have done something useful and the VLC project managers allowed resources to be wasted.
That is the point here.

No, this is not the point.
You don't understand what open source project are... That is the point.

Fork to what other application process ?
Do you know of another application which performs these sorts of functionalities, currently ?
VLC project managers should have a listof desired features, and anyone offering to modify the code needs to accomplish something on that list, or the work is not adopted.
Software development on an existing code base is seldom neutral --
it either enhances, and does good, or it does damage.

Open source software doesn't work with managers setting features...
That is what you don't get.

Open source can be made to work on a Demand basis, with proper management.
How does VLC open source work, currently, then ?

Obviously, this is leading to wrong decisions being made and resources being wasted.
Listening to the customer can help focus development.
And when you are finished developing something that is really being requested by users,
you will feel so much better.

n
You still don't get it...
Open source is not about having customers...

Anyway, I give up to explaining it to you.

And this whole topic is stupid, the 0.9.4 have bigger buttons for those actions...

Everyone has customers, whether they are paying or not.
However, if you harbor hostility toward your customer, or toward customers in general, or against all of humanity, perhaps you are the one who does not belong here.
Maybe you should pursue another line of endeavor.

I did not create this topic, but as I recall, this topic is the result of a line of endeavor in messing around with the VLC user interface which I believe was a waste of VLC man-hours, the sole result of which was to make existing features harder to find.

If you really believe we changed the interface just for pleasure, you are trully stupid.
