x264 crashing (0.9.0)

Postby evertek » 18 Jul 2008 23:26

I'm working with the nightly builds of 0.9.0 and ever since I switched from 0.8.6 the x264 module has been crashing every time I try to encode in h264. Is anyone else having this happen? I'm clearing plugin caches to make sure the newest x264 is loading, but this doesn't seem to help. Is there something else I have to do to make sure x264 working with VLC correctly?

Have you tried different x264 settings?

I've tried various settings, I'm trying to use vb, fps, and scale. I've tried not setting those, etc. But I keep getting a crash when x264 loads as such:
[00000372] x264 encoder debug: version x264 0.60.X
x264 [info]: using threads=3
x264 [info]: using cpu capabilities: MMX2 Cache64

What possible settings could cause a crash within x264?

I'm on an older Xeon processor. This seems to have made it to a ticket so I'm not alone.

I've tried to do some backtraces on that bug lately and it appears that it's some kind of weird pthreads problem (hence explaining why the crash exists only in Windows). However I'm not a coder so I can't do anything about it. I provided the necessary backtraces to the devs though and hopefully, they'll figure it out.
