Convert Flash Media to Xvid

Postby CloudStalker » 30 Apr 2007 19:50

I recently came across a program that allows me to save flash media to my drive, problem is that I want to be able to watch it in VLC media player, therefore, I'll need to convert them. So how can I convert these into Xvid (preferably)?

Sorry for the seemingly newbish question.

They should be readable with VLC. Do you have samples ?

Well here's the video that I want to convert:
http://61.195.57.11/ff12rw/ff12rw_jf2007_large.html

I wanted something that will allow me to convert to either Xvid or H264 codec so that I have quality that's as accurate as possible to the original source. I wasn't able to play the flash video in VLC so I assumed that's because it's a flash video, so now I'll need to convert it.

Don't you wish we could all defeat the bad guy and fly in to save the ones we Love?

The file name is ff12rw_jf2007pv_largesize[1].flv and it plays fine in VLC. Although the Link you provided shows the filename as ff12rw_jf2007_large.swf. The Link can't be used in VLC to stream the file. So use the download after watching the file on line.

Yes I do; like superman, without the fruity tights. 8)

P.S. Is this one of your "Coffee Corner" statements, like the 'I prefer tea over coffee' thing?

OK I didn't quite understand what you said or where to go but I figured it out anyways. It's quite easy: best thing to do is first clear the Temporary Internet folder before streaming the video (makes it easier to find), let the video/song stream all the way t other end, go back to the Temporary Internet folder, look for the file type "FLV File" and associate it with VLC media player.

No programs to download, although I assume it would save me from having to wait for it to stream, but none the less it works. :)

If I understood what it was you were saying then I would thank you, but since I didn't, no thanks. Just kidding, thanks to all. :D

Sounds like you understood it quite well.

PS I never cared much for the fruity tights either. I tend toward the baggy look it's much more comfortable.

If you're using Firefox, you can use the VideoDownloader extension.

Yeah, eventually I'll make the switch (using IE7 )

I kind of want a browser that (1), is more stable (2), faster and (3) has a nicer GUI. FireFox? Opera? Other?

There should be browser comparisons somewhere.

Firefox is better since it is open source and with a lot of extensions.
However Opera is faster.

I'm assuming both of them are more secure then Internet Explorer? Well anyway I'll give FireFox a try, I hear it's better then Opera browser. Thanks.

take all three... firefox is the best, use it as your primary browser... it has tonnes of extentions and skin and its opensource. opera is fast, closed source and several sites dont work on it well... its still a good install though. M$ IE is for all those stuff you need it for.... microsoft is dead magnetic with it, it is needed for several system stuff... but firefox is still the most secure, easy to use and fun... it is full of security enhancing extensions. DownThemAll, VideoDownloder, FlashBlock, AdBlock, all have become essentials now...

Well I've been using FireFox for a few days now and it is pretty neat. You say there's a way to change skins? How? anywho, there's only one thing about it that I would like to have fixed, the text isn't very clear or at least the way it was when I was using Internet Explorer. Does it use Font smoothing or Clear Type?

I gave FF a day & uninstalled it....

1 it was appallingly slow
2 it couldnt handle a long website page heavy on images etc,as i scrolled it overlapped the images & text

compared to Avant it was atrocious :?

Go to Tools > Themes. There's a link to go to a skin download page.

Thanks daveshrop, I've tried the other ones (IE, FireFox, Opera,) and Advant Browser seems to be best. I never heard of it until you suggested it, so thanks. :)
