Better subtitles support

Postby tuleggi » 28 Aug 2006 00:24

Hi all,
maybe it has been already asked.. anyway here my suggestion:

make the subtitles options more simple to use and with more features.
I cannot not compare with bsplayer where you can simply add different subtiles with the right click, when the movie is already started.
Or you can, with shift+up or shift+down, change the position of the subtitle.
With shift+left or shift+right you can increase or decrease the subtitle timing.
Or you can easily change the dimension or the font etc.

And also it looks cleaner, the letters are well defined, while in VLC are not smooth.

Thanks! :)

I agree.
The subtitle letter sometimes looks a little bit strange

It would be better if the user can define the fonttype by his own

You mean like in Preferences --> Video --> Subtitles/OSD --> Text Renderer --> Font?

A number of things will improve in 0.8.6:

* The options to change fonts will be much more accessible (we'll completely rework the preferences system)
* It will be possible to add subtitles on the fly even after the start of a movie by drag/dropping them.
* Some subtitles autodetection problems have been fixed.

However, it will not yet be possible to move subtitles in the black borders, unfortunately...

There are 2 things I was hoping to get, regarding the subtitles.
1) Option to Automatically enable the subtitles if they are detected, when the movie starts. (At the moment, it is disabled).
2) Show the name of the subtitle file instead of just "Track 1", "Track 2"... in the context menu, so that we know which one to choose.

Can You consider adding a right menu section that allows to choose the dimension of the subtitles?
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for my poor english!
