LFE mix in VLC

Postby helix » 17 Sep 2004 10:57

Hello!

Thanks for a great player. I am using 0.8.0-test1 on OS X and I have not
had any problems with this test release.

I am using the Headphone channel mixer although I am using a 2.1 speaker
system. The reason for this is because I want the LFE-channel in 5.1-movies
to be included in the soundmix. This is the only channel mixer that does this
so far (I haven't tried the Equalizer in 0.8.0 though...). The headphone mixer
has only one weakness in my case: it does more than necessary. I don't
want the "spatialization effect", and even if I set characteristic dimension to
1 I still think the sound is much better without channel mixer filters, except
for the missing LFE.

Is it possible to get the LFE channel in the mix without spatialization effects?

The LFE makes the sound so much more dynamic and cinema-like when
watching 5.1-movies. WinDVD and PowerDVD both has this option.

One of the following would be excellent:

1) A checkbox that will enable LFE in the output "Include 0.1 LFE in mix".
2) A channel mixer that works exactly like the default, but includes LFE.

What do you guys think of this?

Some more stuff that might be interesting about this issue.

Code: Select all

main debug: using audio mixer module "float32_mixer" main debug: input 'a52 ' 48000 Hz 3F2R/LFE frame=1536 samples/1536 bytes main debug: channel mixer 'fl32'->'fl32' 48000 Hz->48000 Hz 3F2R/LFE->Stereo
^^ This is what it looks like using VLC with the Default audio filter. It gives
me 3F2R/LFE->Stereo

Code: Select all

main debug: using audio filter module "headphone_channel_mixer" main debug: filter(s) 'a52 '->'fl32' 48000 Hz->48000 Hz 3F2R/LFE->3F2R/LFE
^^ This is what I get using the Headphone channel mixer. Instead of Stereo
it now gives me 3F2R/LFE.

LFE -> front channels

Postby trcolka » 15 Feb 2005 09:48

Hi,

I downloaded VideoLAN yesterday for playing DTS-wav files, it seems to be the only player to be able to play such files, so I am very happy with the program.

The only feature I am missing is the posssibility to mix the .1 LFE channel into the two front channels when listening to surround files. Maybe it is possible to achieve and I havn't found the option yet.

Regards
Olaf
