WTF is »fourcc `undf'«??

Postby iGadget » 08 Sep 2004 14:43

Hi folks,

I tried to play an ASF movie file on my vlc 0.7.2 (OS X 10.3.5) and it doesn't play the audio track, it's just gives me the message:

main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `undf'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format.

I thought your player could play any format? ;)
no, really, can anyone help me to get this file runnig?
Is it possible to convert it or to expand VLC? I also tried WindoofMediaPlayer™ & MPlayer®, also QuickTime™ of course, but no App plays the audio track.
There must be a solution to this.

1: VLC does NOT play everything and nowhere does it state it does so. See also VLC's features

2: No there MUST not be such a solution. ASF is a windows streaming format and that is simply not well supported on Mac OS X.

The audio codec in the stream is probably something rare for which there is no Mac decoder at present time...
Don't use PMs for support questions.

could you post the entire log from playing such a file, or perhaps provide such a file for us to play with, that way we could check if it is a supported format that we just have forgotten to support in asf

Do a Web search for the two words voxware and metasound. You'll find multiple hits to download the CODEC. Looks like there's a Windows version (talks about installing an inf file), not sure but once you install it you could possibly play the film with WMP.

Thx, but I am not really sure if this will work...
I found another way for now, maybe it helps someone, maybe even VLC ;)

I just use the WMP 7.1 for OS 9, it brings along the codec Voxware Sound Component v1.5 as an system extension and works fine with my classic.

Ok, it sux to use the classic environment, but I don't really know how to install some .inf file and especially not where to put it under UNIX.
if you do have more than a brief description or even a specific link I would be pleased

Okay I got a fourcc for an audio codec (0x00ff according to gspot) GSpot says unknown, 1 compatible codecs installed.. and that is the CoreAAC audio decoder.. Any way to force VLC to decode the stream with the aac decoder?

I got the same error message in VLC on MacOS X when trying to open a .flv file. Only difference is that I get sound but no video. I was under the impression that VLC plays Flash video files. Can there be peculiarities in a Flash video file that would prevent it from playing correctly?

Sorry about posting to an old thread, but it does seem to be voxware metasound. I have a undf file as well, which virtualdub says is tag 0075.

This is an old post, but I think I found a solution. I used 7ZIP to "Open Achieve" then extracted the single file within. It seems to work.

Can you tell me how exactly to do that? I can't seem to figure it out.

In fact your website says it does if you look at the homepage. http://www.videolan.org/

# Simple, Powerful and Fast
# Plays everything, Files, Discs and Streams
# No codec packs needed

So I think people have a right to know which Codec's don't work since you claim you play everything!!!

If you want to know which codecs work look at the feature page: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/features.html

Actually, the page says it plays "most" things. The point you are quoting is talking about its ability to play different source: files, discs, and streams.
