Video Stream, but no audio

I have Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCI II connected to a satteline box. THe sound comes from Line-In from the WinTV card into the sound card.

I can view the stream file locally or throught the udp or http stream, but no audio at all. Tried different settings on the audio device through VLC- NG.

I looked through the forum, no one had similar problem. Please, share.

Then you will need to transcode the audio before you stream it.

i have same problem, i can multicast stream video fine with my haupauqe wintv nexus, but audio i hear only localy. How to transcode it ?

Transcoding option are enabled for both video and audio. Tried to change the settings of the bit rate, audio codec or channel- NG. When I use native WinTV application to view the stream locally- works fine with both video and audio, VLC- just video. And I'm just trying to get to play locally.....

Silly question, perhaps, but if you are on Windows, did you select the proper DshowInput audio device?

First, in the VLC WxWindows interface, open View -- Messages, so that you can see any error/warning messages when VLC tries to open the video and audio.

Then, from the VLC WxWindows interface, you do a File -- Open File, select the DirectShow input tab. There's an Audio selection -- press the Refresh button next to it, then the drop-down arrow, select your sound card, then select the Configure button to make sure you've selected the Line In as input (instead of Mic In).

All the settings are correctly set: hardware [line In from WinTV to the LineIn into the sound card], software [linein- enabled in the properties of the sound card, transcoding option set for video and audio.

Tried changing the rate, audio codec etc- NG. Any other input will be greatly appreciated.

You have debug/error info in View->Messages

There are absolutely no errors in the View-Errors in the VLC programs. If I install MS Encoder and run the wizards on the setup and select Streaming Option, leave the program running in the background- I can get the sound. But this solution is very unstable.

Any thoughts???

Hi Rytdim.

I've had similar probs with videolan and my PVR-350.
After much cursing and hairloss I yanked the card from the machine and installed it in another box I had using drivers fresh from the hauppauge homepage and from http://www.shspvr.com.
Then it simply worked, right away, no transcoding or anything.
Direct mpeg2 from the card into vlc and it ran like a charm, both local and streaming.
After cleaning *all* hauppauge drivers from the other machine and installing the fresh drivers it worked fine on that box as well...

Having the latest drivers is of absolutely paramount importance with the Hauppauge cards. Do not use the crap that is on the CD.

In addition The WinTV source selector (wintvsel.exe) is a very good app for tweaking audio and video source settings without bogging down with the horrid winTV2000 app.
