I downloaded vlc-0.9.0-svn-20070804-0000-win32 and at the moment there are some problems.

Firstly, when I open the player, a MS-DOS window also opens along with it. Heres a screenshot.

http://img522.imageshack.us/img522/1343/vlcjc8.jpg

Now onto the playlist columns. I now see 4 columns. Title, Duration, Artist, Album/movie/show title as the default. I can add more columns by right clicking on a file and choosing show columns. Perhaps it would be an easier and better interface if you could change the columns by right clicking on the columns up the top? (It took me about 3 minutes to find out how to add more columns)

In this build, the alphabetical ordering of any of the columns does not work. I can click on title/duration/artist etc, and an arrow shows, (order up, order down), but there is no re-arranging of the playlist in order. For example, I cannot rearrange my playlist by alphabetical title.

One more un-related thing I noticed when playing around. When I go to tools-->hide menu, the top menu dissapears and I don't know how to get it back (other than restart VLC). Perhaps there should be a pop up message when you first use the feature, to show the user how to 'show' the menu when hidden.

Let me know what else I can do to help!

This is what happened when they first started with the 0.9.0 nightly builds, but the issue was later resolved. It may be happening again because I heard there were problems as of recently with the building of win32, or something like that.
Now onto the playlist columns. I now see 4 columns. Title, Duration, Artist, Album/movie/show title as the default. I can add more columns by right clicking on a file and choosing show columns. Maybe even a dropdown-list?

It would also be useful if the player could could save the position of all columns according to the way in which I organize them, this way I don't have to rearrange them every time I open VLC. Examples (organized and evenly separated):

This sounds similar to my previous post:
Hey j-b one little thing I thought I might point out, when you click on the VLC icon in the system tray to hide the interface and then click on another window to bring it into focus shouldn't VLC come to the front of other windows when you click on the icon again instead of being hidden behind them? I think this makes more sense. 8)
At least I think this is what hfswjyr is talking about, If this is what you are talking about hfswjyr@, this is the response to that:

Well Done!

I noticed another minor problem.

When playlist is closed, on the top bar, click playlist--->show playlist
When playlist is open, on the top bar, click playlist--->show playlist

If playlist is already open, it should say 'hide playlist' right?

Now VLC won't hide at all is just always refocused even if it's in focus, maybe because vlc will lose focus as soon as i click on the tray icon and then vlc wants to refocus it instead of hiding it.

I suggest a change like that:

Code: Select all

if( isHidden() ) { show(); activateWindow(); //So that VLC isn't appearing behind all other windows opened after VLC was hidden } else { if( isNotOverlayed() ) //If it is not overlayed by any other windows, not if it's in focus (function must be written first of course) { hide(); } else { activateWindow(); } }
-- 3breadt (aka altglass)

Nope, this doesn't exist in Qt, so I can't do it.
I have focus and active functions but no other.

Hm that's crap, then I think the only solution is to just hide it by clicking on the tray icon, otherwise vlc stays unhidable (at leas t on windows)

@alt:
if( isHidden() ){ show(); } // If hidden in taskbar, just show it, that should be enough, right ?
else {
if( isActiveWindow() ) { hide(); } //If on top, hide()
else { activateWindow(); } // Else, put it on top.
}

What is wrong then ?

The behaviour seems to be totally different on windows.
When I click onto the vlc tray icon the vlc window looses focus, thus the window is not hidden but just refocused. I'm unable to hide the window anymore.
And in the older nightlies, the unhid window shows up underneath all other windows. So I suggested to add the activateWindow() after unhiding.

I just thought of something. I'm using a desktop resolution of 1280x1024. Take a look at my VLC media player in this resolution:

Image

I'm using the new Segoe UI bold font and it adds a better look to some parts of the interface, but not all. My suggestion?:

====================================================
[#23] Change Font Style, Size, Color for the Interface and Playlist
====================================================

This would be a nice option to add for those of us who are using higher resolutions (some with 1600x1200) and want to actually see what's in the playlist without the need for lasic eye surgery. :P Maybe an option in the preferences that'll allow for font style, size and color changes:

Image

The final result is
something that I
can actually see:

Image

Would this be a possibility? Oh yeah, would it be possible to add this Font support to the preferences menu as well? I hope you find something like this to be a useful feature to add. Alright thanks.

OK. Unclear. I tested under Windows and I have the same problem, that you have.

Any idea to fix that without dismissing the activateWindow() function?

No no no. This happened when I was editing the screenshot (oh I'm sorry, Firefox corrects to "screen shot" :P) using Paint.NET. It has no spell checking thinga-ma-bob (Firefox can't help me there). :lol:

==============================
[#24] VLC built-in Mass ID3 Tag Editor
==============================

Basically we'll call this a fusion between VLC and mp3tag (open source). It would be totally awesome if we, the users, could edit id3 tags from within VLC media player. Now it has been discussed a few times before, but this time, so that there's no further confusion, I've made some mock-ups of how it could look within VLC. Let's start with the option.

Tag editor option:
Image

I borrowed some ideas in terms of setup from the mp3tag program, but with full integration into VLC.

Actual Tag editor:
Image

The main benefit to having it this way is that the user can select song/videos, individually or as a group, from the playlist and either manually add information or use, if incorporated, the Freedb service.

That little green button in the screenshot can be used to extend the tag editor, height-wise, to display all of the other information (Copyright, Publisher, encoded by, ect) and can be accessible via scrollbar. This is the current "editor":

Media Information:
Image

The end result is that id3 tags (including Album Art) can be displayed not only in VLC media player but also in other media players.

Tagged - Album art:
Image

Plus VLC has support for many more formats/codecs that mp3tag doesn't, this includes video formats (ones that support tagging).

So what do you think? Is this at all possible or just a dream? :shock:
