Cannot create working AVI files

Postby paul1n » 06 Jun 2007 15:52

I want to transcode TV captures to AVI using the VLC command line (option mux=avi). The resulting file does not play on most players i tried. It's not an encoder problem, since i can make perfect files when using another mux such as ps; but many Windows players do not support this.

Numerous searches did not bring a solution. In one message i found that the AVI mux of VLC is broken. Is this true?

Since VLC also contains the ffmpeg lib, i thought i might use the avi mux of ffmpeg. But *how can you specify* this? The doc on streaming only explains the usage of ffmpeg encoders, not muxes. Or is this not supported?

Should I skip VLC entirely and use the ffmpeg program to make avi?

Note: VLC version is 0.8.5 (Win32).

Any suggestions welcome
Paul
