Changing Default Audio Device

Postby nimabean » 23 Apr 2007 07:37

Hello, I'm new to VLC. I'm just wondering if its possible to change the default audio setting from the 'Audio' dropdown menu. I'm running version 0.8.6b and its always on 5:1 by default. Problem is, the voices sound far away and the sound isn't clear. As soon as I change it to Stereo it sounds great. It just keeps resetting everytime I shutdown the program and start it up again.

I looked around in the preferences menu but couldn't find anything. I also did a quick search on the forum and didn't find anything either. If anyone could point me in the right direction I would really appreciate it :)[/i]

VLC version: OVER 9000!!!
Operating System: It's...blue screen
Location: Heaven? No no. What's that other place that starts with an "H"? Oh yes: Home. ^_^

On your computer, go to: Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, click on the "Audio" tab, under Sound Playback click the "Advanced" button and from the drop-down list choose "Desktop stereo speakers". VLC media player should now detect these settings and configure accordingly.

Close but NO cigar! go to: Control Panel > Sounds and Audio Devices, click on the "Audio" tab and check the box marked "Use only default devices" then press Apply and OK. You may need to reboot your machine, it depends on the audio drivers.

Now go to VLC and open Preferences, Audio, Output modules, DirectX and choose the "Output device". Zero will be the default, 1 should be the next card in line and so on. Don't forget to press Save after the changes and close the player.

Changing Default Audio Device

Postby Ambrosia » 29 May 2007 12:09

I'm running VLC version 0.8.6a and Win98SE. I don't have 'Audio Devices' under 'Control Panel > Sounds' in Windows.

In VLC, I change the audio device (from the audio dropdown menu) to 'mono' and each time it runs it resets to 'stereo'. How can I keep the setting on 'mono'?

Thanks so much!

Use only default devices has been an option in Windows since version 3.

Also setting the speaker setup and number of speakers is in Windows sound system. There are no options in VLC to change these.
