HTTP Streaming from Windows to Mac

Postby Clem » 12 May 2007 05:27

Hi there,

I am trying to do some streaming from a windows box (xp) to a mac box.
I have tried vod and http and in both cases it doesn't work.

Video file are DIVX in an AVI container, vlc version on both boxes is 0.8.6b.

With VOD I sucessfuly have sound but no video, while with http I have none of them. I can see from the video information (on the mac) that I am receiving data.

I know that the setup works because if I try to open the feed on the xp box from another instance of VLC it works fine. Actually it works fine only for http. If I am setup in vod, I can get only the sound also.

I use MPEG TS in both cases.

On a side note, while setuping vod, it seems that the option "-I telnet" does not work, as putty as soon as it connects get a "Connection closed by remote host".

If you know about limitations of streaming to mac, please let me know.

Thank you

Edit:
Just tried with UDP got the same issue, no sound, no video, however I can see I am receiving data.

same here. Several things:
1) -I telnet doesn't work indeed, --intf telnet works, but using VLM seems to be the fastest idea (--intf http);
2) If you are trasncoding on the fly, try using diffent compression or no compression. I found that if you compress both audio and video, it will almost never work. Maybe compressing video only, and using the same codec as the original file was in. Beter off, don't transcode.
