it would be nice to have *.EVO files ..
Then your best bet is MPlayer, unfortunately, video is working great and commentary tracks etc. (that are not E-AC3) works too.
Well, I wouldn't call it "great" (It's still glitchy at times and blacks are much noisier than they should be)... but at least it plays 1080p vc-1 stuff ;)

Yeah, you're right... "Good" is a better word :)

Hope they perfect the codec, so we will have glitch free HD DVD/Blu-ray playback.

They're working on a TrueHD and DTS HD decoder also, can't wait!

Fenrir committed changes to the .ps (and .ts) demuxers regarding VC-1. If I were you I'd give it a try with a new development version build.

How can I play EVO files in MPlayer? Do I need some extra codecs or something? I try to open something I downloaded here ftp://mplayerhq.hu/MPlayer/samples/evob/ , but nothing happens.

Just wait a bit... Mplayer, VLC and ffmpeg are not correctly reading EVO files.

How about a demuxed VC-1 file? Any decoders?

I have successfully compiled a build of MPlayer that plays HD DVD/Blu-ray .EVO/.m2ts files with Dolby Digital+ audio!

It works really great on my end.

It's compiled for Intel Mac's and I have made a guide with links to the .app I compiled here:

Enjoy :)
