Support JPEG files and MJPEG STREAMs

Postby STOPBUG » 05 May 2004 19:49

Do you think VLC project will support JPEG files and MJPEG STREAMs?

If you want to see what MJPEG looks like just try the URL available on viewtopic.php?t=2393

Hope VLC will be able to read this format soon! :)
That could be a really good idea because most of axis netcam are playing MJPEG files and nothing else... I think it could be a really good think for VLC to accept those files...

Thank

Franck

I agree supporting these files would be nice, but calling them MJPEG is just false. First of all, there is no standard for mjpeg and different vendors do it differently, and may types of mjpeg _are_ supported by vlc. This stream can more acuratly be reffered to as MPJPEG for multipart jpeg, since it is essencially many jpeg files encoded together as a mime-multipart message.

If you use Windows or Mac OS X, you can try a likely rather unstable nightly here.

I just wanted to thank you A LOT!!!!!

When I wrote my request, I didn't imagine someone will do something for me!!! I confirm it is now working nice with my AXIS netcam!!!
Hope to try the redhat release soon! :-)

I think there is no other program than VLC player allowing to play&record AXIS netcam from LINUX...
Moreover, all windows AXIS programs are too expansive for their functionnality!!!

Thanks to VIDEOLAN

unless you didn't know it, these streams are directly playable with mozilla webbrowser on linux. Though vlc is much faster.
