Not sure that no update is needed, but the script has not been modified since February, and the people who care of that are rather reactive.
Can you detail what does not work (the link of the video, what happens precisely) ?

I use the latest version. You can find it:
- in the directory http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win64/last/, use vlc-3.0.0-git-*-win64.exe for the 64 bits version
- in the directory http://nightlies.videolan.org/build/win32/last/, use vlc-3.0.0-git-*-win32.exe for the 32 bits version

...the GIT version hasn't been modified since February & my version hasn't been updated in a while cuz I haven't noticed a problem (it works for me). I may not play a YouTube video every day, but if YouTube stops working in VLC, I should notice semi-quickly.
tried this install & still not working
...I currently use VLC 2.1.5, I have not tried 2.2.0 (& certainly not 3.0 nightly), so I don't know if that new of a version of VLC would break my lua script.
...that video works for me in VLC 2.1.5...I know you reported it not working in VLC 3.0, but I have not tested that version yet. Can you confirm if that video works in 2.1.5 & 2.2.0 & doesn't work in 3.0.0?...can you provide a debug log of it working (in 2.1.5 or 2.2.0) & one of it not working in 3.0.0?...I may not need a debug log, since I'll probably just need to test it myself, but maybe it could help?

  • Thanks for all the continued reports, I really do check on this topic, even if I don't login & reply (sometimes I even update my version without replying)...but if I could ask: if you are reporting it "not working", please don't just say "not working again"...please let me know if you are using MY (JSLover'z) YouTube.lua or the official GIT YouTube.lua...or if you are using the default YouTube.luac file from an official released version of VLC (& which version). This topic is really about my version of the YouTube.lua file, but I do need to know if any/all of em don't work, so I can update my version. I can't update VLC's GIT version. I can only compare the GIT version to mine & then make changes to my copy. Sometimes my version will be fixed faster, sometimes the GIT version will be, but hopefully there will always be a version that does work.

How about this: can long-term/trusted users be allowed links in sigs?

Note: Please don't quote an entire post if you are simply replying to the entire thing...I'm not saying "never quote ppl", I'm just saying, that when you quote a whole post, it makes it look cluttered. You can & should click the quote button, but then just edit (or clear out) the textarea before typing your reply. I only quote small snippets of whatever I'm replying to.

For two days it is not possible for me to load videos from Youtube in raw mode down.
What can be causing this?

About Convert/Save... is a download not possible, not with Raw, not with transcoding.
A download is only possible with Stream ... but not with the Raw-mode.

For two days it is not possible for me to load videos from Youtube in raw mode down.
...I'm sorry, but what? What is "raw mode down"? Are you trying to PLAY YouTube videos or DOWNLOAD them? What are the exact steps you were using 2 days ago, that was working? Are you even talking about my version of YouTube.lua?
About Convert/Save... is a download not possible, not with Raw, not with transcoding.
...I don't think "Media ► Convert / Save... (Ctrl+R)" is a good choice for this either.
A download is only possible with Stream ... but not with the Raw-mode.
...using "Media ► Stream... (Ctrl+S)" is not for downloading or playing a YouTube video...it's for making VLC start streaming to somewhere else.


I'm just gonna assume you wanna download YouTube videos & you wanna do that without changing (transcoding) them...


To Download YouTube Videos in VLC...
  • Copy the URL for a YouTube video, for example: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXd2WxoOP5g
  • Open VLC, press Ctrl+V to paste the URL, then press Enter or click Play
  • Wait about 3-5 secs after it starts playing, to ensure it's playing properly
  • Open or Focus VLC's Playlist window
    • To open/close it...
      • In VLC, press Ctrl+L
      ...or...
      • Click View ► Playlist
  • Right-click the bold/currently playing item, click Save...
  • Under Settings, click Dump raw input
  • Under Destination, for Destination file, click Browse
  • Choose where to save the file (set the folder where you can find it later!)
  • Type a filename (type .mp4 for the extension)
  • Click Save
  • Click Start
  • Wait for a new playlist item, called Streaming (in VLC 2.1.5 anyway), to become bold & stop being bold (it might be pretty quick), this is when VLC is downloading/saving the file
  • Once VLC is done saving the file, Delete that new playlist item (called Streaming)...cuz if you accidently re-play that item, it will re-save the file again
    • To do that...
      • Click the playlist item, then press Delete (on the keyboard)
...now it's saved, go find where you saved it & double click it to Play it in VLC.

Hello, im running vlc 2.1.5 (clean install) w7 x64 and your latest "youtube.lua", I've placed it on the right folder, tried deleting the "youtube.luac" file, tried different versions of vlc "vlc-3.0.0-git-20150524-0002" and "vlc-3.0.0-git-20150524-0403-win64" both portable.
And still cant play any youtube video
here is my log wich I don't understand what does it mean

Having trouble using random and a playlist of youtube videos. It seems to try loading them for too short a period of time before moving on to the next file. It will do this until a video randomly loads fast enough so that it doesn't move on.

This does not happen if random is disabled.

Any ideas?

I'm using this script but with youtube moving to DASH, there is some kind of formats like 60fps or 4K that they aren't available in HLS so this script can't use it.

As youtube is doing some signature checking generated by JS when you ask for the MPD, I'm using youtube-dl to solve this problem and I did a simple script for parse youtube-dl dumped MPD. After this, I tried pass the MPD url to vlc but seems that adaptive isn't working because gives me the lowest quality, so I tried use the input-slave option of vlc and works in some cases but it's enough for me

In recent months I got problems with gnutls being unable to decrypt some tls packets from youtube server so I wonder if anyone knows anything about that

I got problem with playing video 18+ from Youtube. BS Player 2.69 has not the problem. Please, update youtube.luac!

In last VLC 2.2.8 Youtube video resolution limiting in settings is supported by original youtube.luac. But you can not open videos 18+. Version 2.2.8 also needs youtube.luac update!
