Need help with FTP and Streaming

Ok so im pretty much a noob when it comes to setting up file sharing systems. I was able to create a ftp server behind my linksys wrt610n router and run it through a dydns account. I can now access the files but when I click "open" it automatically starts downloading them. The files are .iso movies files of 4-7gb each, so the downloading time is far too long --> which is why I would like to know how to stream them. I've tried to use VLC to stream them, but i do not belive i am following the correct procedure. My ftp is also password protected so for the url i put username-pwd@ftp://blahblah.dydns.org/balhblah/blah.iso .
When i do this VLC says
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'username-pwd@ftp://blahblah.dydns.org/balhblah/blah.iso '. Check the log for details.
I was wondering if anyone could tell me what I am doing wrong? is this even possible? is ftp the way to go? like i said i am a noob at this and dont really have an understanding on what to do.

Ok so i changed that and now I am getting this message:
VLC does not support the audio or video format "undf". Unfortunately there is no way for you to fix this.

Oh yeah, I'm afraid dvdnav and dvdread can only open local files; they do not use the VLC stream abstraction.

Is their a file type you would recommend that I turn the .iso files into?

MPEG PS is the obvious choice, but you will loose menus and chapters.

I take it if you are not a computer programmer you should not attempt to use VLC or ask questions about it.

Yes, this syntax is working in 2.0.8. (2.0.8 because of vlsub, newer have the lua net module missing, )

Anyone found a way to open movie files from password protected FTPs? (preferably with tcmd).
