Blu-Ray Disc Support

Postby Pallas_L » 14 May 2024 20:00

HI,
I was watching a Blu-Ray Disc using VLC & Verbatim Blu-Ray Drive (newly bought & tested ok). All is fine until at 49 mins 49 secs, the video stopped completely. This Blu-Ray Disc is more than 2 hrs long.

So is it the Blu-Ray Disc issue, Verbatim Blu-Ray Drive issue or VLC issue?

Also, there's an error message saying "Java required:This Blu-ray disc requires Java for menus support.Java was not found on your system.
The disc will be played without menus." How should I resolve this issue?

Waiting for your reply asap, thank you.

Cool Regards,
Pallas

Please open Tools -> Messages (set Verbosity to 2) before you start the playback, and then paste the full resulting log here or on Pastebin.com or on Justpaste.it if it's too long.
And yes, you need to install the Java Runtime Environment aka JRE. You may need to install a specific version of Java:

Hi Lotesdelere,

I had set Verbosity to 2 successfully. I don't understand what is full resulting log & where to paste it on, pls further enlighten me, thank you so much.

fyi, I had already installed Java 22 (pls see below) but error msg still says I don't have Java.
java 22.0.1 2024-04-16
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 22.0.1+8-16)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 22.0.1+8-16, mixed mode, sharing)

The messages windows should fill with a lot of messages, that's the messages log.

Read that link again:
https://forum.videolan.org/viewtopic.ph ... 60#p528060

Looks like an older version of Java might be required, for some reason.

Hi Lotesdelere,

My messages windows is empty but when I played my Blu-Ray Disc, there's only this message:
Java required:
This Blu-ray disc requires Java for menus support.Java was not found on your system.
The disc will be played without menus.

I had read the link of yours and that I should install Java Version Jre-8u321 but Oracle is prompting me to sign up for their account, I wonder if I should sign up, what's your opinion?

Waiting for your reply asap, thanks.

Thanks n Regards,
Pallas

Sorry but I have no opinion, I'm not using Java and I'm not using Blu-ray discs either.

Hi Lotesdelere,

You are a life saver, thank you very much. I installed Java Version Jre-8u321 and it worked out perfectly. Now I can choose English subtitles for my Blu-Ray Disc and my video doesn't suddenly stop too.

What I like about VideoLan Forum is that there are experts here helping us to resolve our issues. Thank You Once Again :D

Have an awesome week ahead.

Cool Regards,
Pallas
