I have the opposite problem of what most posters to this thread have: When I insert a Blu-Ray disc into the Blu-Ray drive on my PC (Dell desktop running Windows 7), the Windows Autoplay function launches VLC, but I don't want it to.

To be specific, I have CyberLink PowerDVD 17 installed, and that's the application that I want to use to play Blu-Ray movies. However, instead of it running when a Blu-Ray disc is inserted, VLC runs. If I close VLC and use Windows Explorer to right-click on the Blu-Ray drive, the top option on the context menu is to run PowerDVD 17, but that's not what happens automatically.

I'm guessing the problem is that there is some file type that is associated with VLC (via "Tools > Preferences > Set up associations...") but should be associated with PowerDVD 17 instead. However, I can't figure out what file type Windows is seeing when the Blu-Ray disc is inserted.

Does anyone know what file type Windows uses to determine what program to autorun when a Blu-Ray disc is inserted into the drive?

It just means the ssl certificate has expired and your browser is blocking the site. Some browsers allow you to continue. But the KEYDB.cfg there is outdated anyway. Just get FindVUK and synch

Hello,
Nothing I've done can make my VLC run Blu-Rays. I'm using a Pioneer BDR-XD05TS, and know it can run dvds and cds. I used both the aacs installer and the newer keys, putting them in my Program Files/VideoLAN/VLC folder, and putting the appropriate files in the roaming/aacs folder. I have tried using older versions of VLC, but nothing I can do will alter it. I get the same

Blu-ray error:
No valid processing key found in AACS config file.
Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'bluray:///D:/'. Check the log for details.

message every time.

I get that error when the keydb.cfg file does not have the key for the specific disk I'm trying to play. In other words, every other thing could be working correctly but without the key for that disc you simply can't play it. To confirm that this is what is happening in your case, try to play a bluray disc for which the keydb.cfg definitely has the key. I expect that such a disc will play for you and the reason the failing disc fails is because the keys file just doesn't have the key for the failing disc.

In order to attempt to get a key for a disc that is not already in the keydb.cfg file, look into FindVUK. See the past few pages (edit actually maybe just page 8, look at my posts) of this thread where I went down that rabbit-hole and got plenty of fresh keys that weren't already in the keys file. Let us know how things go.

I've managed to get 2 of my blu-ray discs to work so far, using the latest FindVUK and DVD Fab 10, however the next 2 I've tried won't work. How did you get the rest of yours to work?

Glad you've made some progress at least. So FindVUK believes it got everything it needed, but VLC still says there is no key. Random thoughts I have are these:

• Is it possible you have another keydb.cfg file somewhere that VLC could be looking at, one that doesn't have the keys you just got from FindVUK?
• If we can't get this working, you could consider posting in the FindVUK thread on doom9. I have a few times.
• I would inspect the keydb.cfg file and confirm you see the new thing written there.
• I wonder if there's any kind of "clear cache" thing you could do with VLC?

One more thing: I actually resolved one random failing disc by turning off bluray menus here: http://i.imgur.com/yvldeTd.jpg. No reason at all that ought to help, but could try it since it inexplicably fixed one of my issues.

I use VLC on a laptop with an Nvidia card an integrated Intel graphics. I've been trying to get VLC to use the Nvidia GPU but I can't. Here's the Nnvidia Control Panel: http://i.imgur.com/AM6qJ7R.jpg. As you can see, the option for selecting nvidia GPU rather than integrated is grayed-out. Any way to make VLC use Nvidia GPU?

EDIT: Nevermind I guess. I copied the vlc.exe and added my copy to the Nvidia GPU and was able to set the copy to use Nvidia GPU. I would still prefer a way to just make the normal VLC .exe use the GPU if possible.

Checked inside the Keydb.cfg, and all the keys had been added. However, a backup keysdb.cfg file had been made somehow, so have deleted that and will try the discs again

**UPDATE** After deleting the backup file, all blurays working absolutely fine

I have a separate though related concern about VLC-Player. I've been using the LIBACCS.DLL and LIBBDPLUS.DLL Win-32 modules to decode a number of BDs successfully and stably, provided that they are only AACS protected and not BD+ protected and that the VUK is in the key database file, since LIBBDPLUS.DLL barely works with very early BD+ discs. However, I've found that this arrangement only works up to VLC Player 2.21, though I've read some people have had success up to VLC Player 2.24. However, with VLC-Player 3.X, these DLLs no longer load apparently and I recall trying version 3.0 when it was first released and it did not work so I went back to 2.21. I just noticed that the according to the release details shown here below for 3.00:

I noticed that version 3.X supports BD-J menus. So does that mean that BD menus are now finally supported? Because previously in VLC-Player version 2.X, BD menus were not supported and the only way we could navigate was through the TITLE menu one by one, not very user-friendly. I am trying to understand if that means BD menus are finally supported. However, how does one playback BDs through VLC-Player 3.X? I had LIBMMBD.DLL working to substitute for the above two DLLs in VLC-Player 2.X's top level program folder, yet in VLC-Player 3.04, it just plain doesn't work. I also noticed that the PLUGINS folder of VLC Player 3.04 has numerous DLL files related to BD as well. I'm confused about this with version 3.X. Any clarification would be appreciated.

I couldn't figure out how to make VLC Player 3.X even play BDs yet, since it does not seem to work under the Win-32 environment, so I'll worry about that if and when I get that far. Everything works great under 2.21 using LIBMMBD.DLL to substitute for LIBACCS.DLL and LIBBDPLUS.DLL, only no disc menus. But with 3.X that completely does not work under Win-32 environment. If anyone has any experience with this or has any pointers, I'd be interested to hear about it. There were some posts a while back such as this one:

Looking at the posts you suggested, it seems that this is the original VLC solution, which I did use along with the VUK database. However, this solution doesn't work well since it doesn't decode BD+ well, which is why I ended up using LIBMMBD.DLL from Make-MKV to be rid of components that AACS updater uses. I never bothered using the automatic AACS-Updater process, it worked just as well under VLC-Player 2.05 and 2.21 by manually inserting the necessary Win-32 DLL into the VLC-Player program folder and then manually adding the VUK database (KEYDB.CFG). But I dropped this solution because it is nowhere near as good as the Make-MKV DLL. What I'm trying to accomplish is make the exact same set up work when VLC-Player 3.X is installed using the Make-MKV API but it doesn't work. If there's a specific point about the info there, please enlighten / clarify. A while back I noticed that the AACS-Updater project was terminated. Has it been revived since?

Also, since when did the DLLs libgcrypt-20.dll and libgpg-error6-0.dll emerge? I have not see these DLLs before. Are they required for VLC-Player 3.X to play BDs properly? Are these 32-bit or 64 bit DLLs? Also, I noticed that in the VLC-Player \plugins\access folder, there are DLLs such as liblibbluray_plugin.dll and libbluray-j2se-1.0.2.jar, so somehow VLC-Player 3.X supports BD, but I have no idea how all these pieces tie together. Ideally I would like to use the Make-MKV DLL to work under VLC-Player 3.X without using that horrid KEYDB.CFG VUK database. When I used VLC-Player 2.21 (with LIBMMDB.DLL substituting for bothe LIBACCS.DLL and LIBBDPLUS.DLL), I could throw just about any BD at it and I have yet to find any decoding problems. The only shortcoming is no BD menus. If I could solve that with VLC-Player 3.X everything will be perfect.

Go to doom9 for questions about FindVUK. There is temporarily a problem with synching (probably because of a misplaced special char | in the title of 1 disc)

I'm running Windows 10 Home. I'm trying to play a blue ray disc using vlc 3.0.4. So far I haven't had any luck. I have placed KEYDB.CFG in to the appropriate the %appdata%/aacs and have placed the 64 bit version in the appropriate path. I select Blue-ray from the "media" -> "open disc" option. I've also trying various settings for the "Hardware accelerated decoding". I still get following error. Does anyone have any other suggestions for resolving this issue

If you see this error it means VLC cannot find the libaacs.dll. Either it's in the wrong path or it's an incompatible version.

You can try Sysinternals Procmon to check from which path VLC tries loading the dll from

It appears they are in the correct directories. Procmon shows the system is successfully reading libaacs.dll and KEYDB.cfg from the directories. I did see where the system would successfully read KEYDB.cfg from c:/users/evans/AppData/Roaming/aacs/KEYDB.cfg and then try to read KEYDB.cfg from c:\ProgramData\aacs\KEYDB.cfg when it would fail. So I also placed KeyDB.cfg in c:\programData\aacs\KEYDB.cfg. It didn't help. I also deleted the libaacs.dll from the system and redownloaded it, on the off chance I some how had the 32-bit version. I am using the 64-bit version of VLC.

Hard to say what's the problem. You can try these dlls. There are 2 different versions and both have experimental patches (can play UHD discs if you have a working host certificate). Copy all 4 dlls.

I've just updated to VLC 3.0.5 and blu-rays won't play anymore with the method I posted earlier here:

I had to switch back to VLC 3.0.4.

I used (for the first time) the FindVUK tool and it worked like a charm: it could find my brand new "2001: A Space Odyssey" blu-ray key and updated the KEYDB.cfg file, and I could play the blu-ray with VLC, with menu and all.

There appears to be quite a mix of issues in this post so I'll try to be specific about the issue I'm experiencing and how EncryptedEggs' tip about turning off bluray menus has helped a little.

I'm using VLC 3.0.4 with ISO copies of BDs. VLC handles well nearly all of them, either after creating AACS key entries using FindVUK or using DVDFab 11 or DVDFab PassKey to remove the key dependency altogether. However, a particularly stubborn set of BDs (specifically the 'Star Trek Discovery Season 1' set, either ISOs or real discs) plays the 'CBS Home Entertainment' fanfare opening but fails to proceed to the BD menu (just a black screen)! I've tried DVDFab's Media Player and, not surprisingly, it plays through to the menus. But, for certain other reasons, I'd prefer to use VLC.

I've discovered that when you turn off BD menus, as EncryptedEggs suggests, you, of course, don't get the menus but you do get to go straight into Episode 1. That indicates to me that the content is fine, there's just an issue with menu support.

I would've like to share a solution with you but thought my progress to date may spark some ideas. I shall continue my investigation and update this post with any further progress.
