VLC changes skin on other players

Postby claw » 28 Oct 2011 03:09

I just installed VLC Player and I admit I don't know much. When I run a video clip or trailer they no longer have any controls on them. I cannot replay, pause, stop or even exit because the skin is gone. VLC was not even running. So far, I give it a negative 5 stars.

You can reset VLC settings by removing %appdata%\vlc folder.

%appdata%\vlc folder is not there when I open C: Programs. I wouldn't know where else to look.

Start -> Run and paste %appdata%\vlc there. (or paste it to the address field of Windows Explorer)

Thanks but %appdata%\vlc folder does not come up. I got the VLC Media File, Interface Config Settings and a vlcrc file that I can't open. I don't see %appdata anywhere to remove.

%appdata% is (of course) the environment variable which points to your appdata folder.
And of course you wouldn't want to remove appdata folder!

If you see vlcrc file you are in %appdata%\vlc
Go Up one level and delete (or move elsewhere) the vlc folder.

P.S.
I don't see why you can't open the vlcrc file - it can be opened easily with WordPad
(to just View it I use F3 View (Lister) in Total Commander)

Of Course! I would not want to delete the %appdata%\vlc folder like the first guy told me to do! Of course I knew %appdata is the enviromental variable that was pointing to my %appdata folder all along. I feel so stupid for not seeing that. You must really know your stuff. So, I followed your advice and deleted the VLC folder-- which did absolutely nothing to change the way VLC screwed up my system! I did fix the problem myself though without further brilliant advice from you. I sent it to the trash bin where it belongs!

I said: "And of course you wouldn't want to remove appdata folder!" (which (of course) do not belong to VLC)
"the first guy" told you to remove %appdata%\vlc folder which is completely different

%appdata% is your hand
%appdata%\vlc is your nail
Which one do you would want to cut?

Of course I knew %appdata is the enviromental variable that was pointing to my %appdata folder all along. I feel so stupid for not seeing that.
Yes, that's known since DOS times 30 years ago.
When you use %something% enclosed in % signs (e.g. %Path%) it is interpreted as the Value of the environment variable.

So, I followed your advice and deleted the VLC folder-- which did absolutely nothing to change the way VLC screwed up my system!
And how exactly VLC "screwed up" your ENTIRE system??

Do You understand your first post (I don't):
"... When I run a video clip or trailer they no longer have any controls on them.
I cannot replay, pause, stop or even exit because the skin is gone.
VLC was not even running..."

???

I did fix the problem myself though without further brilliant advice from you.
Thanks

I sent it to the trash bin where it belongs!
