VLC 3019 & 3020 hate my UA Apollo x8 audio io

-- VLC 3018 works perfectly
-- 3019 & 3020 crash instantly if I have the Universal Audio Apollo x8 audio interface selected.
• If I launch VLC with the Mac's i/o set to the Apollo, VLC crashes faster than it launched

• If I launch using any of the other audio io, VLC works fine

• If I switch to my Apollo after VLC is launched, it crashes instantly

At the beginning of the week, I was running the latest Ventura, and as of yesterday, I'm running Sonoma 14.1.1, same issue
All drivers are fresh/up-to-date
in a fit of rage, I nuked the vlc settings back to defaults, it did not fix anything and I regret this now

in the decades I've been using VLC, I've never encountered this bug before

Hi, sorry for that experience. I am unfortunately unable to reproduce this issue both on Intel and M1 using VLC 3.0.20 with my X32 mixing console.

Does it prompt you to send one a crash report to us or does the macOS crash handler handles it? (In the latter case, I would need you to send it to me by mail as there is no way for us to access reports sent to Apple)

Could you give the sample you tested ? Or you could give us a full dump of the media properties, I'm interested in the audio codec/format/properties.

Never mind, I managed to reproduce the issue today with my X32. Thanks for the report, we will work on a fix for this.

The issue occurs when playing a file with more than 2 audio channels on an audio device that has more than 9 channels.

I had the same issue. As a temporary workaround, you could try changing the audio output module settings in VLC. Go to 'Preferences' > 'Audio' and experiment with different settings in the 'Output' dropdown menu. It worked for me.

I have the same issue with my Audiunt iD24.

Changing the "Stereo audio output mode" to "Headphones" stopped it from crashing.
