Re: 0.8.6 VLC Crashes When Quitting

I'm experiencing the same problem, and it's gotten worse with every new version of VLC :-( Where can we file proper bugreports, and what is needed in order to fix this problem? Crash logs, debug messages? Anything we can do ourselves to pinpoint the problem? I'm on a Powermac G5 2x2 GHz, with Mac os...

It doesn't work on an iMac core 2 duo, which has almost the same hardware as the macbook pro so I'm betting it doesn't work on a macbook pro either. 99% of the time, h264 in .ts-files stutter. You'll get maybe 10-15 frames out of 25 at 1080p for a while, then the whole image locks up for 5 - 10 seco...

Screen 2 as default works just fine now, although the setting is hidden in the preferences. Open preferences (Apple+,) Navigate to something like Interface > Main interface > macosx Type in 2 in the video device text-box Click save, quit VLC, re-open it and fullscreen should now always be on screen ...

It is surely fixed in the 0.8.6 nightly builds. I can't find a commit for 0.9.0 trunk right now, but it is probably fixed there as well (regrettably, I can't test this here, since I only got one screen). I tested it and it's half-fixed. Using the latest nighty build (2006-11-06 intel) I was able to...

I just found a work-around! Move the VLC controller window (the small one without any video in it) to the second screen. Press apple-F and fullscreen will be on the second screen too. The controller position is saved when you quit vlc so if you had it on screen 2 the last time, it will stay there un...

Acctually you can save yourself a couple of clicks if you tell vlc to use screen 1 in the preferences. That way you "only" have to: 1 open the video 2 select screen 2 3 go fullscreen (The gui acctually respect your preferences, that's why screen 2 is pre-selected for you.) And if you want ...

I have tried with the 2 latest nightly builds (0.8.6-test1 and 0.9.0-svn), and I am sorry to tell it is the same... "Video device" menu is greyed  Have you tried removing the video filters you might have set in you preferences? When I have a video filter preselected the video device ...

I'm having the same problems with 0.8.5. VLC always defaults to fullscreen playback on the primary screen, even if another screen is selected in the preferences. If any filter (I use crop+deinterlace) is preset in the preferences, the Video Device menu is greyed out. But if no filter is preset in th...

Volume is lower, 0.8.4a has a bug that causes bad audio

If you are using 0.8.4a then download a newer nightly build instead. Version 0.8.4a was compiled in a way that somehow causes bad audio if you use the digital output. It was an old bug that came back and was fixed almost immedeately after 0.8.4a. It might explain the fact that your voices sound diff...

DJ probably just means that since they just replaced their old OS X machine with a brand new G5, there wasn't enough time to switch compilers and stuff before releasing 0.8.4a and thus the bug resurfaced. I just tried the latest nightly build and the little flakes are gone so it's already fixed. Goo...

0.8.4a digital encoded audio: unsteady volume, tone on G5

When using the "Digital encoded output" in vlc 0.8.4a, dolby digital and dts starts to vary in volume and tone. This is most noticable on bass-sounds like male voices but it affects all sounds, not just bass. Forgive me for the silly explanation that follows but I don't know how to explain...

I too have these artifacts. I only play back hdtv-transport streams (1080i and 720p) but they are mpeg2 just like dvds. Random flakes (mostly green) that are most visible on darker areas but they are appearing throughout the movie regardless of background color. I believe the flakes were "intro...

I have the same problem

I got the same problem when vlc 0.8.0 was released. Vlc 0.7.2 plays high definition files (.ts, 1080i) on my 2x2GHz with around 60% processor usage with interlace blend. With 0.8.0 that almost doubled to 100 - 110%. With 0.8.4 it jumped once more to consume even more resources. It never lags or drop...

Have you tried calibrating?

Have you tried calibrating your screen? Hold down alt/option + one of the brightnessbuttons to open system preferences for your screen and then click the Color-tab. There you have a lot of profiles that you can try and you can also calibrate the screen from here (create a new profile). Calibrating w...

A howto for compiling VLC on OSX is available here: http://developers.videolan.org/vlc . It isn't very hard to do, but takes a bit of time (VLC itself ~20 minutes, 3rd party libraries ~1 hour on a iMac G5 2GHz). But I doubt that compiling an own version will help, because we only use AltiVec as CPU...

I don't know how to remove the thin vibrating grey line, sorry :-( If you look closely the whole screen vibrates, not just the bottom line. That's why I use blend instead of the other deinterlacers. Blend is the only one that doesn't make the picture all jumpy. Except for discard of course but disca...

Try setting your output settings in the preferences instead of the menu. Click "Save" a couple of times too. This will turn on the selected post processing every time vlc is opened though but I'm guessing you're always selecting the same post processing so you won't mind if it's on all the...

Remove grey bar on 1080i high definition video

To remove the grey bar and have deinterlacing on at the same time you'll need VLC 0.8.2. Open preferences and click the "Advanced" checkbox in the lower left corner of the window. If you don't, some options you need won't be visible. Then select Video > Filters and check Crop and Deinterla...

Download vlc 0.7.2 instead of 0.8.1.
0.7.2 plays dts just fine on your normal speakers (but does not passthrough the datastream).
