Blue stripes while playing .flv

Hi,

When I play .flv files I always get these blue stripes\blocks in the middle of the screen, I've tried a couple of things, different ways of deinterlace, switch off overlay and different screenresolutions but the blue stripes seem to remain.

Any idea as where to look for a possible solution?

Hum, that's weird (flv support in VLC is kind of experimental ... maybe thedj would be able to help more)

This is one of them, I got it of the YouTube site and it plays fine in my browser, however as soon as I bring it into VLC I get these blue stripes\blocks.
I don't have this with every .flv from that site btw.

I get a similar effect with the odd video or it cuts off after 2-5 seconds. It's a problem with the player because the files play fine in WIMPY FLV Player.

Same here, some just cutoff after a couple of secs.

Thanks for the vid! Haven't seen that one in a very long time. Plays all the way through with no anomalies using VLC 0..8.5-final. Though the 320x239 resolution did make the vid kinda blockish in full screen mode.

Perhaps the stripes are more from the heat of the video rather than a technical issue.

Yep resolution isn't really that great, but if you're into 80's videos, the YouTube site has plenty of them, almost like you stepped right back into the eighties

Anyway, thanks a lot for checking that video DJ(glad you enjoyed it as well hehe)
I think I've got this one solved, since switching overlay off didn't help a lot, I took a look at windows hardware vid. acceleration. After taking the slider back to no acceleration at all the blue stripes were gone.
So I've changed the output module inside "preferences\video\output modules to "Windows GDI video output" and everything works fine again.

Seems to be a DX related problem, for future reference for others I'll mention that I'm running a GeForce 6600 LE card on XP sp2\DirectX 9.0c.

This action puts all the weight on your CPU with no help from your Video card.

New Video drivers most generally resolve this issue. A few nVidia owners have found that backing up in driver revisions was necessary. That is if you are running the newest drivers.

Every couple of months there is a new DirectX runtime available from Microsoft. The last one (I think) was Feb 06 and is not automatic nor does the version change from 9c. You could also try this.

Yep you're right, it's not the best solution possible, but since I'm running the newest Nvidia drivers and DirectX revision it's all that seems to help.
I could check older Nvidia drivers, but then again I take only a slight hit on my AMD 64X2 for this, beside that I have those problems only with the flvs, so I use the normal settings when it comes to everything else

Thanks DJ, but even with the newest AMD 64 X2 driver installed last week the problem remains. Guess I'll have to hope either a newer gfxdriver or DirectX revision will solve this one.

I also have that blue stripe thingy occur in a few videos, and one of them is not .flv, it is a perfectly normal video (mov). Using Video | Deinterlace --> modes "Bob" and "Mean" fixes the blue stripe problem though... using any other Deinterlace mode will have the blue stripes.

I had the same problem, but the lines were horizontal in a vertical column down the middle. I got rid of it by going to Preferences\Video\Output Modules\DirectX and unchecking "Use hardware YUV->RGB conversions". (Don't forget to check "Advanced options" at the bottom right of the preferences box)
