VLC and OS 10.4.9

Postby gbsinclair » 15 Mar 2007 12:06

I just upgraded from 10.4.8 to 10.4.9 and now find that DVDs I've watched fine previously now have a slight jitter. I'm running a fast powerbook and have never had any problems like this before. Has anyone else noticed a change?

I can't reproduce these problems with VLC 0.8.6a on 10.4.9 here and if I had, I would have complained to Apple a couple of months ago (as I have access to pre-release OSX builds).
Anyway, try to reset VLC's preferences with the script delivered on its disk-image or delete both org.videolan.vlc.plist and a folder called "VLC" in ~/Library/Preferences.

After installing 10.4.9 VLC just won't start and I have unistalled it along with all referernces in the Preferences folder a few times and reinstalled but with no luck - this is a real pain.

Jens Hillmann has spotted that the burrent beta (v4) of Afloat. prefpane kills VLC.app when VLC is started (and skype.app for that matter) while the latest stable v3 does not. You may encounter the same kind of problem.

For other 10.4.9 problems you should check that your system utilities don't interfer with VLC.

Pierre.

Postby arri » 06 Apr 2007 03:53

a small confirmation:

i thought i had deleted the prefs, but overlooked the 'VLC' folder...
so, make sure you deleted all prefs!!!

thanks Fkuehne for stressing that detail..
