Digicipher/SCTE-27 Subtitle support

For questions and discussion that is NOT (I repeat NOT) specific to a certain Operating System.

Digicipher/SCTE-27 Subtitle support

Postby BrainyLad » 08 Sep 2011 15:10

Hi,
Does VLC player support SCTE-27 subtitles. Is there a way where i can load a particular codec and get to the see the subtitle. I have a TS in which 1 of the services has digicipher subtitle. The VLC is able to identify that there is subtitle but does not show it when i enable them.
Thanks

Hi Jean,
The service contains 3 Subtitle languages. Two of them are DVB subtitle (Type 0x6) and one is of Digicipher subtitle (Type 0x82). On choosing subtitle the VLC player displays the following -
Track 1 - [Espanol]
DVB Subtitles - [English]
DVB subtitles - [Espanol]

But on choosing Track 1 it does not display subtitles. However it works fine for DVB subtitles. I have cross checked on the content and it does contain the subtitles being displayed for all the three languages.

Hi Jean,
Is it the Tools --> Messages option that you are referring to ? In that the messages section is empty.
Thanks & Rgds

Hi Jean,
Sorry for the delay in the response. The VLC player hangs whenever i tried increasing the verbosity.
So i had done it in two parts.
1. Played the TS
2. Chose the service with digicipher subtitle
3. Enabled the sibtitle (ffrom video --> subtitle option)
4. Launched the messages and increased verbosity and got the capture.

Similarly i had done the same for the DVB subtitle as well in the same service.

Please find below the corresponding logs -

https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B5IKbU ... m&hl=en_US
https://docs.google.com/leaf?id=0B5IKbU ... l&hl=en_US

I have the snapshot taken with the options being displayed here -

Thanks & Rgds

The ts is invalid, as the logs says.

"ts warning: invalid header [0x49:10:c6:db] (pid: 7680)" means that a least a program is ciphered.
The hangs you see are probably due to the high numbers of such messages.
To see if it would be easy to add the support of SCTE-27, I would need a sample (around a minute at least of playback).

I have the same problem. SCTE-27 Subtitles are not shown even if VLC shows the track.

TSReader also does not show this subtitles. Could be a problem with configuration. Please anybody knows how to show it?

Thank you. This link is for a SPTS qith Portuguese and Spanish subtitles on SCTE-27.

I want to check how to play it. Also if is possible to convert them to DVB, my encoder does not support SCTE-27.

Hi Fenrir,

VLC ver 2.0.2 shows selection of Subtitle in "Video" drop-down menu, so it does detect stream type "82" but does not actually display the image data for SCTE-27.

Do I need a new revision of VLC to display SCTE-27?

It has been about a year since content was provided, any news on support?

Please help.

Thanks,
Hunter

I have started adding SCTE-27 support. But I would like to have more samples to test the decoder. Does anyone have other samples that they could upload?

Were you able to get the content and include the support for Digicipher subtitle ?
Thanks

VLC 2.1.4 shows no subtitles for the samples at http://streams.videolan.org/streams/ts/SCTE-27 Are these supposed to work?
