It's always about 1/2 to 2 seconds (roughly), it happens on any type of file whatsoever (Xvid AVI, H.264, DivX AVI, MP3, WAV, even old original MPEGs), and it happens every single time without fail. If I have a video or audio file that ends with someone speaking, the last word they say is cut off. If I add a short silence to the end of the file, then I can hear what they say, and then the silence is cut off.
I searched around on the Internet, and I've found a couple posts here and there about this, but they are 1-3 years old. This is not a problem with my files, and this is not a problem with my OS, as this has happened on Ubuntu Jaunty/Karmic/Lucid, old and new versions of VLC, and files directly downloaded or hand-re-encoded through Avidemux. It's just not reasonable to have to go and re-encode silence at the end of every video and audio file on my entire system, and this has really started to chafe me recently.
