VLC: Unsupported MMS Stream

Hi,
I can open these two mms -streams with the Windows-Media-Player,
but not with VLC-Player. -Why ?

ERROR MESSAGE:

means resource doesn't exist.

This can not be. Because with "Windows Media Player"
It is possible to open the stream without problems.

The server might require some authentication data that VLC won't provide.

Here's another Link "mms://red7blue.com/TK2". It can't be opened by VLC player (WMP can open the link without problem).

Do the vlc developers plan to implement an option to authenticate the vlc player as a "Windows Media Player" when connected with mms: servers ?

I played the following 4 url's ...

mms://red7blue.de/TK1 964 kBit/s
mms://red7blue.de/TK1_LOW 344 kBit/s
mms://red7blue.de/TK2 891 kBit/s
mms://red7blue.de/Primetime

.. with "Windows Media Player", Firefox, Opera, Realplayer
and Iexplorer with success. With the Vlc-Player there was no success.

While playing the stream with iexplorer I had a look at the
[right mouse button/statistics]
and so I found the protocol used to play the mms://
is in fact rtsp://

Here is the screen shot :



I replaced mms:// by rtsp:// and the VLC
player played the stream without problems.

Is it possible for the VLC developers to implement
a kind of auto-detection for mms:// and rtsp://
streams ?

I think that kind of redirection is required by mms specs, but current VLC doesn't support it.

I had the same problem - a stream that worked in Windows Media Player but not in VLC (because VLC did not support it in some way). Here is my solution:

Please bear in mind that Windows Media player itself supports rstp:// connections itself. So if you have any control over the URLs to your videos then simply replace the mms:// protocol on the URLs with rtsp:// instead. This means that any video player on any platform will be able to play the video. If Windows Media player is your default video player then it will handle the stream no problem, likewise if VLC is your player of choice it will also play the video no problem.

we have static ip
with that static ip rtsp url is not played
the error message is "VLC is unable to open the MRL"
other rtsp urls are played in vlc player
only this rtsp url is not played in vlc
