VLC player does not play the DVD from beginning

Postby QQQ16848 » 30 Apr 2009 04:08

I made a DVD which has 1 min introduction at the beginning then following by the main menu. When I used VLC player (0.9.9) to play the DVD, it directly jumped to the main menu without playing the introduction.
Then I used Window Medium Player to play the DVD on the same computer, it played from the introduction then the main menu. I also played the DVD on the TV by using DVD player, it played from the introduction then the main menu.

The VLC player Open Disc setting as:
Disc Selection: DVD
Starting Position:
Title: 0
Chapter: 0

Do I miss something?
How to make the VLC player to play the DVD from the beginning?

Thanks in advance.

VLC assumes that the first video is some sort of anti-piracy clip and skips it. You should be able to play the disc correctly if you force VLC to start playback from correct chapter/title.

It should have chapter/title number. PowerDVD for example should show it, if you use OSD.

Tools -> Preferences -> Show settings: ALL
Input codecs -> Access modules -> DVD with menus
Untick the option "Start directly in menu".
Save the preferences then close and restart VLC.

I think this option should be left unticked by default for best compatibility.
Wink to the developers ;-)

Thanks Lotesdelere.
I reset the preferences as you mentioned. Now it works the way DVD should. :D
