How to change VLC icons?

I was able to change the icon of the shortcut and the actual program, but I want to change the icon of the media files associated as well like mp3, avi, etc ... how would I change those icons? I don't care if they are differnet for each or if all the media files have the same icon, but I would prefer a different icon instead of the cone.

I have the .ico and .png images so that's not the issue.

From Windows Explorer, Tools -> Folder options... and File types tab, and choose the file type you want to modify, press advanced and change icon.

Can you tell me how to change the icon? I have an icon and I replaced favicon.ico, but I still see the cone on the vlc.exe.

I am using Windows Server 2008, but I believe it's very similar to Vista.

vlc.exe has the icon build-in. So you have to use some resource editor tool, if you want to modify vlc.exe icon.

Bummer. Just for the record, not everyone is crazy about road cones. In a place where there is a lot of construction, for instance, such as where I live, a road cone is a symbol of frustration. So when I'm using VLC and it's responding to me in a way that is frustrating ... the road cone ... becomes ... a ... symbol... of .... EVIL

I agree with JJ30- Traffic cones only have negative connotations. It is a bad icon to use for any company. Cones only exist because something is broken and needs cone-ing off. Also, orange is not everyone's favourite colour! OK so it's only an icon, but try googling "change VLC" and the first thing that auto-completes the search term is "icon". Thankfully if you google "vlc icon changer" you should find what you need and I can only recommend that VLC themselves might want a rethink for future versions about the icon they use! A minor drawback to an otherwise awesome program
