dvdnav warning cannot get next block Error reading from DVD

Postby Slapyo » 25 Apr 2007 23:33

I have Ubuntu (Feisty Fawn) and I installed VLC through the Synpatic Package Manager. I put a DVD in and it won't play. When I view the messages, here it was I see.

Code: Select all

main debug: creating new input thread main debug: waiting for thread completion main debug: thread 3002030992 (input) created at priority 0 (input/input.c:265) main debug: `dvd:///dev/scd0' gives access `dvd' demux `' path `/dev/scd0' main debug: creating demux: access='dvd' demux='' path='/dev/scd0' main debug: looking for access_demux module: 2 candidates dvdnav debug: trying to go to dvd menu main debug: thread 2993343376 (dvdnav event thread handler) created at priority 0 (dvdnav.c:336) main debug: using access_demux module "dvdnav" main debug: meta information: main debug: - 'Title' = 'OLD_SCHOOL' main debug: `dvd:///dev/scd0' successfully opened dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_HOP_CHANNEL dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_HIGHLIGHT dvdnav debug: - display=1 dvdnav debug: - buttonN=4 dvdnav debug: buttonUpdate 4 dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_VTS_CHANGE dvdnav debug: - vtsN=1 dvdnav debug: - domain=8 dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_CELL_CHANGE dvdnav debug: - cellN=1 dvdnav debug: - pgN=1 dvdnav debug: - cell_length=558000 dvdnav debug: - pg_length=558000 dvdnav debug: - pgc_length=3396000 dvdnav debug: - cell_start=0 dvdnav debug: - pg_start=0 dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_SPU_CLUT_CHANGE dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_SPU_STREAM_CHANGE dvdnav debug: - physical_wide=0 dvdnav debug: - physical_letterbox=0 dvdnav debug: - physical_pan_scan=1 dvdnav debug: buttonUpdate 4 main debug: selecting program id=0 main debug: looking for decoder module: 24 candidates main debug: using decoder module "spudec" main debug: thread 2976156560 (decoder) created at priority 0 (input/decoder.c:159) dvdnav debug: DVDNAV_AUDIO_STREAM_CHANGE dvdnav debug: - physical=0 dvdnav debug: buttonUpdate 4 dvdnav warning: cannot get next block (Error reading from DVD.) main debug: closing input main debug: thread 2993343376 joined (dvdnav.c:352) main debug: removing module "spudec" main debug: thread 2976156560 joined (input/decoder.c:191) main debug: killing decoder fourcc `spu ', 0 PES in FIFO main debug: Program doesn't contain anymore ES main debug: removing module "dvdnav" main debug: thread 3002030992 joined (input/input.c:412) main: nothing to play
The one error is "dvdnav warning: cannot get next block (Error reading from DVD.)"

I've searched for this and can't find anything. The DVD's I am trying are Top Gun and Old School. I've made sure my region was set to 1. I dunno what to do.

One thing I notice is people talk about libdvdcss2 and I don't have that listed in my Synaptic Package Manager ... and VLC didn't require that to be installed ... do I need that and if so, how do I go about installing that.

Figured it out. It was the libdvdcss2. I ran the following command and it worked:

Code: Select all

sudo /usr/share/doc/libdvdread3/install-css.sh
