VLC can't play RM files?

Postby Rob » 20 Jun 2004 04:14

I've been trying to play RM movies on VLC, but it tells me that

"main: no suitable decoder module for fourcc `RV20'.
VLC probably does not support this sound or video format"

what should I do to get it to work?

Many thanks to any who help.

Use RealPlayer. It's a proprietary format, that's why the program is telling you it cannot play it.

Also, check out the Features List, off of the main VLC page -- it lets you know what is, and is not, supported by VLC.

been trying to use RealPlayer but for some reason it freezes after 5 minutes of viewing so I tried using VLC. Oh well better talk to the people who made Real. :(

Can't blame you for trying, just that it won't work. The common things that are proprietary, not played by VLC, are Real, newer Indeo (eg, IV50), and newer Microsoft (WMV9).
