Open new file in same instance of VLC

Currently if I double click a file in the file manger it will initiate another instance of VLC, if I already am viewing a file. I would like to know how a new file can be opened in the already running instnce of VLC.

It will be possible in 0.9.0.

You can use the svn or a nightly build if you are adventurous until 0.9.0 is released
