Streaming from VLC to Amino 110

Postby cosminpop » 02 Jan 2007 19:50

Hi!

I have a problem with streaming from VLC 0.8.6 Windows version to an AMINO 110 STB. I used "amilinux-AMINO-fresco-0.14.0-mcast-110-1.0" image to configure Amino box. The only thing I did was typing amino-config. No further configuration. I rebooted the computer back in Windows and I use my Linksys for DHCP service. When I boot the Amino I get the fresco browser. I tried to stream some unicast from VLC to 192.168.1.168 (Amino's IP), but for most of the MPEG files I get a black screen on TV. Some MPG files are "working" but the image is choppy and the sound broken. You can't distinguish anything on that image. I use the udp://192.168.1.101:1234 in the amino's browser to connect to the stream (192.168.1.101 is my comp's IP). It's clear that the Amino get's some signal as long as I get that choppy thing, but somewhere there is a problem. There are no firewalls in place and the IP's and port 1234 are configured properly.

What do I do wrong? Is there further configuration for VLC or Amino box?

Thanks a lot

On the Windows server try serving to udp://239.0.0.0 using port 1234.
You may need to specify Mpeg 2 codecs for both the video and audio streams.

On the stb try igmp://239.0.0.0:1234

does it look better?

You said the STB is configured for DHCP. Verify by looking in the
/mnt/nv/netconf has DHCP: Y

Some have reported problems with DHCP: N and a missing gateway
address they don't get desired results.

Also make sure your server is NOT a wireless connection. Seen some
problems there.

Still choppy image

Postby cosminpop » 03 Jan 2007 00:38

I did the multicast as you said and it worked the same way like unicast. I still get the choppy image and regarding IP address I have it. The Amino is wired and it gets an IP address from the router.

How do I specify MPEG2 for both audio and video??

I couldn't find any option in that wizard. It only allows MPEG TS.

Thank you

Don't use the wizard. Use the open file method. Select your movie file to open.
Put a check in the Stream/Save box and click on settings. Put a check in
the UDP box and fill in the address. I recommend a multicast such as 239.0.0.0

Also IGMP on these Amino units seem to be more forgiving, I have dropped a stream
for many seconds and when I restarted, the stream restarted. Using UDP would hang the stb
and I would need to reboot the stb.

Return to “VLC stream-output (sout)”
